Careers at
Facepunch
We’re Facepunch. For over 20 years we’ve been growing to support the expansion of our games. It’s always been our intention to scale at a deliberate, steady pace, guided by our own goals, rather than market fluctuations. We don’t overhire when times are good, and we’ve never had to downsize when things get tough. It means that we have the right people in the right place so that we can continue to bring quality gameplay to our community.
We’re always on the lookout for talented and passionate people. If you’ve made it this far, check out our open positions below. Don’t see a role that fits? We’re happy to receive general applications too.
What you can expect working at Facepunch
-
Who we are
Facepunch is a mixture of people from across the world. Few people ever leave Facepunch, which is why so many of us have worked together for over a decade. Our growth has been slow and intentional, and not in response to market trends. You’ll also meet plenty of new faces who are just starting their journey here. This makes Facepunch a truly unique place to work, where you have legacy context and experience, blended with fresh perspectives and ideas.

How we work
We're a developer-led company with a culture of trust and self-management. We believe you get the best out of people when they have the freedom to own their work. We’re not going to breathe down your neck, but when you do need support, we're always here for you. This way of working lets you manage your time and approach in the way that gets the best out of you.
-
What we care about
We’re a games-first company, and always will be. We want to bring together curious, talented and passionate people who genuinely care about making quality gameplay and awesome experiences for our players. We figure out what’s best for the game as a team, and we work through the wins and fails together.
-
It’s not all work and no play
Between hack weeks and play days, we want our team to really know and understand the games they help to build. After every update we have a Rust play day, everyone downs tools for the day and jumps into Rust to play together. Hack weeks happen every quarter and offer a chance to experiment with something new or dive into a part of game development you don’t usually explore.
Our Benefits
Our benefits are simple: look after good people so they can make great things. Whether it’s time to recharge, room to create, or support when you need it, we’ve got you covered. Not every company benefit applies to our international employees or contractors, but we always do our best to offer perks of the same or similar value where we’re able to.
Quarterly performance based bonuses
Available to all
We’re really proud of our industry-leading bonus package which is paid through quarterly performance based bonuses.
We recognise and reward outstanding performance and dedication. In your first year with Facepunch, you have the potential to earn up to 50% of your base salary as a bonus. After completing year 1, the potential expands to up to 100% of your base salary. All bonuses are discretionary and everyone is eligible after passing their probationary period
Flexible and remote
Available to all
We are (and always will be) remote-first.
So whether you prefer working remote, hybrid or fully on-site in Birmingham UK, you have the flexibility to choose. Unless it’s written otherwise in the job description, you can work from wherever works best for you, as long as it complies with local employment laws. We’ll make sure you have the correct hardware to support you.
Team Stories
Whether you’re just starting out or have been with Facepunch for years, our people shape the company behind our games. This is how they've grown their careers, stayed for the culture, and why Facepunch feels like more than just another job in gaming.
The Hiring Process
We’re no frills and developer led, and that shows in our hiring process. You won’t be doing 8 rounds of tests and meeting 25 different people. We’re confident that we find the right people for the job from one interview and one offline assessment (role dependant).
The process below isn’t set in stone, it’s a general idea of what your journey with us could look like. We personalise each step to fit you and the role you’ve applied for.
-
Getting To Know You
As a remote-first team, we want to make sure we’re hiring people who are a good fit for us and the way we work, as well as Facepunch being a good fit for you.
This is an initial chat with a member of the People team to understand more about you, your motivations and interests, and for you to hear more about Facepunch.
-
Offline Assessment
Whether it’s a code or art test, we’ll give you the instructions you need to complete it and the ideal completion date.
We don’t want people labouring over a test for weeks on end, and we also know that people have lives, commitments and holidays, so if you need more time just let us know.
-
Meet The Team
If you’re successful from the offline assessment, we’ll arrange a time that works for everyone to chat with the hiring manager and other members of the team. Although it’s an interview, we’re an informal bunch so hopefully it’ll just feel like a conversation.
We’ll talk about your offline assessment, your background, and any key skills we’re looking for in the role. Your personal projects tell a story too, and we’d love to hear about anything you’ve worked on in your own time that shows what you can do. We’ll also share more about what to expect from Facepunch and the role itself.
-
Decision Time
You’ll hear from us either way.
If it’s good news and we’d like to offer you a job, we’ll communicate that to you and put you in touch with our People team. If it’s a no for now we’ll explain why.
