Environment Artist
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Mid to Senior Environment Artist to join our team working on Rust. In this role, you will take on the creation of environments and props, and take part in world building. You'll work closely with the Environment Art Lead to maintain a coherent visual style and ensure the technical quality of 3D assets.
This includes establishing performance and pipeline standards, ensuring that all environmental assets are optimized for both visual fidelity and game performance.
Our ideal candidate will consider how environments influence player experience, contribute to effective traversal of certain areas, and enhance the overall level design. A strong understanding of level flow principles and how art can guide players through compelling spaces is essential.
Applicants will be required to provide a portfolio displaying examples of their work.
Responsibilities
Understanding the art direction of Rust and help elevate the visuals in its direction
Produce high-quality 3D art assets in realistic style, including props, hard surface and organic models, foliage, and environment elements
Ensure performance and technical quality of 3D assets, optimizing them to meet specific technical requirements
Know how to prototype and block out sections of levels for quick iterations
Game Engine Integration: Integrate 3D assets into Unity, setting up LODs, collisions, prefabs, etc
Propose solutions that fit the level design and game design restrictions all the while limiting the impact it has on the art and make it fun to play
Establish excellent communication with your teammates and other art departments
Get familiar with the game's art resources. Know when to re-use assets and when to produce new art
Work within deadlines and communicate effectively about time management. Bring solutions to adapt to time constraints
Requirements
5+ years industry experience
Solid amount of experience working with Unity
Proficient in 3Ds Studio Max, Blender, Zbrush, Substance Designer, Substance Painter
A great sense of composition, sense of detail, and a knowing when "less is more"
A good understanding of 3D asset pipeline and how to optimize assets for games
Excellent understanding of architecture, if you love brutalist architecture that’s a plus
Great sense of communication and being a team player
