Why do you need a new thread when this one only has 34 pages?
because he is stupid
Anyone have an idea what e3_logodoor.vtf is? It's in the CS:GO beta files.
It's from the old E3 2003 presentations for HL2.
Why does Valve leave so many old files in their new stuff? Is that just the result of building off the same engine?
Like anyone's going to use those shitty brick wall textures and those citadel textures every damn person uses in their shitty little surf maps.
let alone that door
I dislike citadel textures. It's the way the engine does the cubemaps. Then there are also textures that aren't shiney enough.
Greetings, fellow waiting-for-Episode-Three-ers! As I'm sure you all know, veteran Valve employee Gray Horsfield (best known outside of games for his movie work at Weta Digital), has recently left the company. At first, the news of his absence might seem to be a bad thing Episode Three, but fear not, for he may have already made his contributions to the project! How would I surmise that, you ask? Well, Mr. Horsfield posted a showreel of his Valve work following his departure, and there are a select few clips here that would appear unfamiliar even to the staunchest of Valve fans, specifically at 1:45. If that short bit doesn't satiate your curiosity, then fear not again, for there's a much longer version on his channel:
This "swarm" demonstration is quite clearly in the Source engine, but that level (one might even call it citadel-like, as it resembles the interior of a "citadel" structure, you might say) seems quite elaborate for a mere tech demo, I'm sure you'll agree. Gabe once stated that that he wants the next Half-Life to scare the players, and this video quite noticeably has a Giger-inspired look (plus "giger" is in the video tags) normally associated with the quite scary Alien franchise. Could this hint towards what we may see in Gordon's future? Only time will tell!
^Wow, that's gorgeous.
Did some more investigatoring..
Do any of you think that these:
Look similar architecture wise to..
..and other pictures found here?
Insert "Shit guys, we might be on to something here!" statement here.
This, or something like this, should be in Half life 3.
I feel like such a bad ass while listening to this.
That reel was put up Jan 12, if it was Ep 3 related, I'd think some action would've been taken by now. But I do like the space part, I'd like to see a space game from Valve.
In case it's still too hard to read, the line I highlighted in the console reads gh_swarm_max 1000 - meaning this isn't just a model animation, but rather controlled via code. Also, in the top right it says it's Source Engine 12, which agrees with the logo which reads "Half Life 2: episode 2" - does anyone know what build ep2 is at right now? Be interesting to compare.
It's definitely source engine, probably half-life related (textures seem very combine-esque), but who knows how it'll show up in the final game, whatever it may be.
EDIT: rewatching, noticed there are also manhacks in the swarm, further confirming that it's probably half life related.
There was some swarm related code episode three found years ago in alien swarm (since removed), so it makes sense.
It's probably very old content anyways, otherwise it wouldn't be shown.
I'm going with the idea that this is combine tech undergoing an alien invasion, could explain the strange looking overgrowth stuff around the area, manhacks, and strange flying aliens.
Look closer, brethren.
I swear to got if I don't see more xen creatures I'm going to be PISSED
then I will get over it because it's going to be awesome anyways WOO
If combine technology is being consumed by some alien thing, I'd hope it's much like the way Xen crawled it's way into Black Mesa, and I too, would like to see the return of some Xen Fauna, like Houndeyes.
