More than 1,000 advertisers have pulled out of advertising with far-right news outlet Breitbart, a campaign group has claimed.
Kelloggs, BMW, Visa, T-Mobile, Nordstrom and Lufthansa have all severed ties with the company over the last few months, according to a database from Sleeping Giants.
A petition for Amazon to cancel its relationship with the website has also reached almost half-a-million signatures.

Pretty good news. This is the way that bad journalism outlets can be killed, by draining them of money. The reason so many act so sensationalist and are incredibly manipulative is because it just flat-out works

Unfortunately this adds more fuel to these people's fires. It makes them think they're vindicated because the main stream media and the big wig companies are all conspiring against the little man.

It can piss them off all they want but they cannot do anything about it when they have no more revenue.

There are plenty of right wing companies that will continue to advertise on Breitbart.

It's weird how disconnected these people are that they can have their president in office, with an entourage of big companies at his side and their main news source's leader as his right hand man and still feel like the underdogs.

If anything moderate lefties like myself are the underdogs right now, I sure feel outspoken, especially in the UK where both of our left leaning parties have committed not so honourable seppuku.

I honestly wish to have a right-wing news source that isn't horribly fucking biased or has a shitty agenda; The media is inundated with a lot of left-leaning sources and that's fine, but I think there should be more out there that provides an alternative perspective.

Breitbart wasn't completely terrible before Bannon took over, though I usually don't bother with sources that're founded explicitly to push a particular agenda. Then the Cheeto's vizier took over after Andrew Breitbart's death, and now it's a place that outright fabricates a story, then defends the article when it's pointed out that it was all bollocks.

turns out the 800 to 1k number in advertisers is inflated. There are ones that haven't been on the site and are willing to get the publicity.

The number to really look for are the ads that are substantial enough to effect the site. A ratio to who still sells ads to who doesn't anymore for instance is a better metric.

Yeah, I dunno where the 'media is left' idea comes from. At least in the UK, most all the big media is pretty right leaning or Murdoch shit apart from the like the BBC. Surely even worse in the US where socialism has come to encompass anything insufficiently right wing for the taste of the reader.

    Rhetoric wins I guess.

Overton window shifted so far to the right that Thatcheresque neoliberalism is considered leftwing. Stupidity triumphs.

ignorance, most advertisers have to blacklist sites manually with ad agencies so there is now an army of people sitting there writing emails to every ad that pops up on breitbart

If a large number of people in your country still hold views that no educated person would utter on television, what's normal is going to be seen as leaning left.

The US has a small number of huge 24 hour news networks that are all at least center-left except for Fox News, and the laws Republicans actually try to push through are so transparently bad for social and economic fairness that it makes them an easy target for outlets that might be considered centrist in other countries.

It's impossible to avoid bias, so I like sources that own up to it and make it quite clear, as long as they retain integrity and aren't manipulating reality or making up bullshit. It kind of lets me be conscious when reading them, if you know what I mean.

I honestly wish to have a right-wing news source that isn't horribly fucking biased or has a shitty agenda; The media is inundated with a lot of left-leaning sources and that's fine, but I think there should be more out there that provides an alternative perspective.
The problem is that when you dive into it, a whole lot of what the right wing stands for and pushes (especially in america) is absolutely backed by nothing. Denial of science, crank voodoo economics, etc.. This will bleed into dedicated right wing media and often make it a little... crazy. When I look at sources people tell me are good like national review I still see so much bullshit that makes me go "... people read this?"

The best I've found would have to be the economist, which is a british paper. But even saying that will set some people off to say "what the fuck you consider them right wing?" On issues like the GAYZ, climate change, etc. you can call them pretty liberal but economically they can be considered conservative/right wing.

I guess I'm strange, then, because I don't want politics shoved into the news. If I'm watching the news it's because I want to know what's going on. I don't give a fuck what the political bias of that newsroom is. I don't want to hear it filtered through a political lens. I don't want anything but 'This is happening right now in this part of the world'. Tell the facts and let the viewer apply their own filter.

It's a large part of why I don't partake of the MSM in general anymore.

Probably the best way around that then is to follow sources like AP, where news sites typically get their shit from anyways.

But the problem is, even sources that are relatively bare with commentary like that can still introduce large biases based on what they actually choose to report on. I mean just as an extreme example, imagine if the only news you had was what tudd posted

    Basically what I always thought.

The amount of companies go down, but I am sure the ones who stay on are willing to pay the bucks if the site still increases viewership and they are expanding.
