Here's an approximate badge visualizer of primeval warrior, grizzled veteran, soldier of fortune and mercenary. X-axis is # of years after TF2's release.

You joined the tf2 community 8 years ago? You're a mercenary, sorry bud
Remember how shitty the community was for a while, saying that bronze badge = "noob kys fag" etc etc? Even though you could be a 2 year vet and have the fucking bronze badge the day they dumped them in to the game.

Overwatch has neat cartoony visuals and a beautifully crafted world as far as the arhitecture of its levels is concerned (I dig its vision of bright, vibrant futuristic metropolises that aren't all fucked up and post-apocalyptic), but the characters are...lacking and sometimes cringingly cheesy compared to TF2's, in my opinion.

The class voice responses feel forced and have no real humour in them, the characters are stereotypes yet they mostly take themselves seriously and just make edgy, unfunny boasts and banter that's so much weaker and unimaginative than the TF2 classes...

What also kinda bothers me about their design is that a lot of the guns in OW look and feel ridiculously bulky and unwieldy, to the point that they not only cover half the screen but also feel like they'd be terrible to actually shoot, aim and carry around (I know Heavy's Minigun is huge too, but he's sort of an exception to that).

It's not that OW lacks character by itself compared to the many drab military and futuristic FPS games out there, but TF2's classes and humour beat it hands down. OW's heroes and comics feel like they're written for 14 year-olds, while TF2's feel like they were meant for a slightly older 18+ audience that gets the tongue-in-cheek references, banter and weirdness.

i wish TF2 had more history-referential in-game banter, subtle cheeky callbacks to the world wars between soldier/heavy/medic for example

Is there ANYWAY to optimize my game?
I deleted everything. All my mods that I have saved for this game
I have uninstalled and recently reinstalled

But I have been just having Framerate issues and studdering ever since Meet your Match. I want to get back in but there is NOTHING of worth when it is the only game running choppy on my machine

    I recommend one of Comanglia's configs: http://www.teamfortress.tv/25328/com...nfig-fps-guide

I use the max fps for high quality pcs with some modifications like turning gibs on and I use it in both with -dxlevel 81 or -dxlevel 90 for MM. You probably should start with trying the Mid quality config.

    What are your specs?

I feel the only one who should be making war callbacks is soldier, because that's what his character revolves around. Medic, and Heavy? not so much

Unsure, I just remember running the game on high before the Meet your Match and being able to run it as smooth as butter. I remember being kinda angry after the update because matches took forever to load and my PC kept lagging along right after

They have some for example the soldier has a dom line for heavy that's just "checkmate stalingrad" and numerous anti-communist boasts, demo calls him a Bolshevik too. I think there's similar ones for medic but back in the day they really didn't want to associate any voice lines or personalities to and from the medic with nazi germany.. meanwhile today he's got entire outfits named after a infamous Auschwitz officer, josef mengele (https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Angel_of_Death) you can argue that the angel of death is a very common trope and all that but obviously someone would have researched that before giving a character in a videogame potraying a german doctor an outfit with that name and backstory.

it's cool that they steered medic back into the homicidal doctor cliche instead of HAHA NAZI GERMANY IS STILL FUNNY GUYS

Well the Heavy certainly wasn't involved in the war, since he was either incarcerated in a labour camp at the time or was in hiding after escaping. But what about the Medic? Was it ever mentioned?

Soldier's direct reason for denial from service was never specifically stated was it? I mean its possible he was just too young because in the comics soldier got crazy from drinking poisoned weater too much. Medic is old enough to have served based on his looks, and I doubt heavy would ever fight for a country that incarcerated his family and killed his father.

One thing I don't get is that if the Heavy is supposed to be anti-revolutionary, then why does he have items with the communistic hammer & sickle logo on?

    For example:

    and

The pilotka is kind of excusable since it's a promo from Red Orchestra 2, but I can't understand the reasoning behind the iron curtain. In a publicity blurb it even says "Forged from Soviet iron [...] each kill is not only for "pride of team," but for the Republic".

I feel it fits for the others (ie: baseball/extreme sports gear for Scout, ballistics armour/medieval themes/scottish themes for Demoman) but hammers and sickles feel out of place on Heavy apart from the whole "he's russian XDDD"

I don't think so, but I know you cannot and should never sign up to any military division on either the mental or resume basis of "i want to kill people" it's a great way to get immediately declined, barred and on a watch list

considering what soldier did after that (getting his own plane ticket, teaching himself how to load guns and then immediately going on a rampage) he probably made it a bit obvious that it was his intention in all his interviews

yeah, the army wants killing machines but they'd much, much rather make one than buy one because when you make one, you know whats inside it.

I would assume at the time Nazi's were his enemy of choice and commies took center stage when he heard about the whole cold war thing.

This is honestly a bit of a stretch, and also rather dark even for tf2, but maybe the Medic is based on Josef Mengele? They were both German doctors who ran morally inexcusable experiments on people. Not to mention that Josef Mengele fled Germany when the Red Army came knocking at Auschwitz; The Medic might very well have left Germany because he put a bird in the wrong German's chest. It'd explain why the Medic never talks about his past, or if he was a Nazi or not.

No, because the tf2 teams original direction (I say original because they've strayed from it with the theme of cosmetics that have came out) was to make the medic as unrelated to nazi germany as possible.

The Medics personality is derived from a 'mad scientist' cliche albeit not as deadset like pyro being a hallucinating lunatic

It still bothers me that there are plenty of games out there that never get got on the list to begin with lol.

My Personal Pick was Cave Story, one of the first indie games to really hit it big and put indie games on the map. Came out significantly longer then any of the games on the list and is still popular to this day.

But then, if we go further. There's still games out there that triple of the life span of the games listed that are still regarded as incredible. Few easy picks for that would be Doom 1 and 2 as well as the Quake series lol. All of which have held up pretty well even for being 20 to 25 years old.
