4096p? We just got an HDTV last year! That was after bitching to our dad for years.

It isn't, but it's the iPhone that made the whole industry realise the potential of easy to use touchscreen smartphones almost no companies were seriously interested in until then. Android wasn't even complete by 2007, and both Blackberry OS and Windows were really cumbersome to use back then. Surely the "iTV" won't first or the best of it's kind, but going by Apple's track records, it'll be the most known and used by the masses.
the O2 XDAs were out before then, and windows was fine for an interface
then again I guess I don't need HUGE ICONS to make a device usable

It does not matter what you think about smartphones before the iPhone. All that matters is that average consumers responded positively to it, and did not respond well to any other smartphones of the time.

The television industry has a lot more important things to be scared about than Apple. The future of television as a medium is pretty much doomed. Less and less people are watching TV as more and more people begin using the internet. People are simply getting tired of having tons of expensive channels all running predetermined programming, but never shit you're interested in. Compare that to youtube, where you can subscribe to your favorite content and watch it whenever you want, while not having to deal with all the uninteresting shit you don't want or need to see. Youtube, and other services like it, are the television of the future. The televisions we have now are simply not fit for that. Hooking a television up to your PC is a giant mess of cables, adapters and complicated settings. The future is plug 'n play televisions.

Actually it's not "4096p". These 4K TVs actually have a resolution of 3840x2160 which is really QFHD(double resolution of 1080p in both vertical and horizontal dimensions).

    Edited:

I'd assume it's mostly for easy scaling by assigning each pixel in 1080p source material to four pixels on the TV.

I can't be the only person who doesn't really like to do anything except watch the occasional movie anyway. I don't even have a reason to buy a TV in the first place, my 24" monitor is just as adequate.

internet TV like designs and 'more resolution!' are not new
    and that's not biased

it's not an innovation for fuck sake

Maybe I misspoke. No, technology like that is not an innovation in terms of the technology itself. For example, the iPad only 'innovation' in that area was the multi-touch touchscreen (which wasn't even much since it had been in the iPhone and iPod Touch before). In the hardware department, it's not an innovation. However, it did put the spark into the tablet industry because it was popular (Mainly because of Apple's reputation, comparable to Activision's with CoD) and because people bought it.

To all of these companies trying to get me to buy bigger and higher res tvs. All I have to say is simply this.

Laptop/computer + Netflix = Best TV you could ever ask for. Seriously, I just don't see the point in keeping up with TVs anymore. The nice ones seem rediculously expensive (then again I have low income.)

I wish Apple the best of luck in a new venture, and I hope they don't dick up the TV industry.

hate all you want but its true, phones, most smart phones can do what an iPhone can, yeah they aren't polised and made from glass but they can still do it, nobody cares though because they don't look pretty

In my opinion the majority of their products are 'worthwhile'. They tend to last longer than their competitors' counterparts and have astounding build quality, and their customer support is pretty much unmatched.

Wait, Apple isn't even attending CES, yet somehow this site managed to talk only about Apple? This whole article is only a rumor, I doubt even half of it will actually come true.
But yeah, what else could you expect from a site called "Cult of Mac"?

Wait, that's basically the exact same design iOS uses for the lock screen. Is that a port of iOS (which is near impossible if I recall), an iOS feature recreation (if the phone is open enough) or are Apple being incredibly hypocritical?

Apple would probably charge extortionate amounts for it and ensure that no other company can produce the cure. Basically, evil. Just because they can do good doesn't mean they aren't assholes to competitors.

I can't be the only person that thinks the idea of an app-supporting gesture/speech controlled tv is fucking stupid.

The only thing I really care about is how it won't have bezels. And since the thing will be so expensive, I doubt people will buy many of them so I believe it kind of defeats the purpose.
