SnapMap reminds me so much of the Timesplitters map maker.

Full modding capability would salvage any possible fuckup this game could bring.
Which is exactly why they won't give it.
I dunno, Carmack seemed hopeful on Twitter and Bethesda seems to understand the importance of modding with Fallout 4 so they may allow it for all we know. I personally wouldn't mind seeing someone modding in recreations of the original weapons just for shits and giggles.
D4 really REALLY needs less brown. I'd take mismatched overly colourful like the originals than an "art style" that leans entirely on samey colours.
I've never properly sat down and played DOOM, but since I'm hype for DOOM 4 I suppose now would be a good time to do so.
a little color contrast would be nice indeed
not shade contrast
red on blue *coughcodemon*
not brown on darker, less saturated brown
Ultimate Doom is Doom 1 with 9 extra levels.
Final Doom is a standalone expansion for Doom II.
All of them are great as they are very similar in gameplay but Doom II is the one to get if you want to mod the game.
Ultimate Doom is the complete version of the original Doom including the fourth episode Thy Flesh Consumed. (4 episodes with 9 maps each)
Doom 2 is Doom 2. (32 maps) If, for some reason, you only choose one, this is the game to go with as it is the biggest stepping stone for modding and the like.
Final Doom is, effectively, a standalone expansion of Doom 2 containing two new individual campaigns, Evilution and Plutonia. (64 maps total) Final Doom doesn't contain any new monsters or weapons, but the level sets are highly regarded nonetheless.
If you're looking to buy the game on Steam, you'll also see the Master Levels for Doom II. This is an odd ball set of individual levels (21 maps) with no strict connections. While not bad, there's no reason to jump into these right off the bat.
If you wish to play any of these games on modern systems, you're going to want to use a source port. Most digital releases only pack the game with DOSBox which is not ideal. The easiest way to get the games up and running is to use ZDoom. However, if you're interested in a more authentic experience that still allows modern conveniences such as widescreen support, contemporary key setups, more configuration options, and the like, I'd recommend PrBoom+. And just because it must be mentioned, if you want an absolutely vanilla experience just as people played two decades ago, there's always Chocolate Doom.
On that topic, GZdoom is the one you'll want if you desire to run a shit ton of mods. Some larger mods add graphical effects that will not work outside of GZdoom. If you desire to play with a friend, Zandronum is the way to go.
Here's hoping that it doesn't take two fucking years to come out like Rage's development kit.
And that they aren't impractically fuckhuge because of the devs literally packaging just about every dev tool into one large and unstable clusterfuck (last I remember hearing).
Stratton recently confirmed that the weapon wheel in Doom4 is officially optional. Rejoice!
Personally I like the weapon wheel, but options are always a plus!
I like weapon wheels but I don't like the slow mo, hope we can just disable that part and keep the wheel.
The only reason you'd really need the wheel is for consoles. That's likely why slow-mo is in there as well.
I assume the PC version will have instant switching between weapons bound to the number keys so I don't think there's much need to worry about the wheel appearing on our screens
I know this might be late, but I saw the baron of hell in the gameplay trailer at the 0:55 mark.
Classic Horns, Awesome.
A minor note on ports: PrBoom and the ilk are the go-to for ridiculous slaughter maps if you want to run them mostly or entirely vanilla.
zDoom uses DECORATE for the AI which causes a few maps like those seen in Sunder and Nuts to bring anything but top-of-the-line CPUs to their knees. You might manage on vanilla (60fps on Hag's Finger with Boom verus 30 with gzDoom for me), but good luck playing gameplay mods unfortunately.
Going Down also has a few issues with it if you want to use a gameplay mod, too. Both for the monster counts and the replacement of the SS Nazi
Suddenly tempted to make Cute Doom.
make it as non-ironic as possible and you got a downloader, if it's fake parody cuteness it'll be kinda boring, if you make it ACTUALLY adorable that'd be cool
Has to have adorable music and hand-drawn images like the intro to Golden Souls, too.
The problem with the colour is that the textures are all too grey and drab. The lighting is colourful, even if it is typical orange and blue with the occasional highlight.
The environments shown look bland and generic, but the neutral colours would work if the monsters were more vibrant.
Colour also adds more charm to the designs.
what about Doomsday? I thought it was good. Been rolling with it for years. Even has heretic, hexen and its forgotten expansions.
Snowberry's ok, but newer stuff may break on it.
Oh, man. I completely forgot Doomsday existed. Does it still have that cool 3D model enemies thing?
Wait so, is the new Doom called Doom, and not like, Doom 4 or something that'd actually make fucking sense?
what is a reboot
I do wish it at least had a subtitle.
D.O.O.M.: Demon-Owning Organized Militia

it stands for Doom dOom doOm dooM, or 4 Dooms, a.k.a Doom 4
When you use the exact same name? Judging by how search engines tend to work, I'd call it a big boost to marketing.
Unless communities use guerilla tactics and search en-masse for the original Doom or even the concept of ill fate, diverting the cynical marketing steroids out of sheer spite. Remember how Facepunch used to be the #1 result for "fucking awesome" when typed into Google?
