Basic Information:
Mafia II is an action crime game that follow the life of World War II Veteran Vito Scaletta from 1945 to 1955 in Empire Bay, as he climbs the ranks of the Mafia with his buddy Joe Barbaro. He is forced into the Mafia because he needs to pay for his family's debts, but during the game the ''Family'' will become more important than his own. You will begin as a hired gun for the Mafia and you will eventually become a Made-Man.
The story begins with the player character Vito returning home from World War II. Vito had joined the U.S. military as a way of avoiding jail time for a botched robbery. Vito reunites with his old friend, Joe Barbaro, and the two quickly embark upon a life of crime. Their criminal ascension starts with Mikey, a car mechanic who gets in a conflict with Joe. Mikey also needs a certain type of car to chop for parts, and will pay $400 for one that the police are not tailing. Soon enough, Vito, Joe, and Henry Tomasino (already a made man) find themselves battling with, for, against, and around three crime factions: the Falconi, Vinci and Clemente families.

The Wanted system:
The wanted system is very different from most Open-world games, the cops don't have an eye in the sky so losing them is much easier. There are many factors than effect your wanted level e.g. your car can be wanted because you used it as a getaway vehicle, changing to a different car or giving the car a new paint job will make sure the cops won't bother you any more or if the cops saw your clothes, changing your suit will have the same effect. Making a quick getaway thought an alleyway is also very effective, just make sure the cops don't recognize you on the way home.
Mission Structure:
A mission in Mafia II takes one day of game time to complete, it works like this:
Stage 1, Morning: You get a briefing of what you're going to do and you have to do a small bit of the mission.
Stage 2, Afternoon: This is where the real work starts, here you take care of business.
Stage 3, Evening: The last part of the mission A.K.A. pay-day!
