Its officially in, announced at comic con.

    http://www.cinematical.com/2010/07/2...-z-adaptation/
For anyone who's read Max Brooks' World War Z or his earlier The Zombie Survival Guide, a big-screen adaptation seemed, if not inevitable due to the problems inherent in adapting Brooks' episodic novel, then at least likely, especially with the continuing exploitation of the zombie sub-genre, e.g., The Walking Dead, a small-screen adaptation of Robert Kirkman's long-running comic-book series (a six-part first season will air on AMC later this year) and last fall's commercially and critically successful zombie-comedy (or "zom-com"), Zombieland. MTV's Rick Marshall has word that Brad Pitt has officially agreed to star in the World War Z adaptation, scheduled for a summer 2012 release.
I am psyched as shit for this, easily one of the greatest books I've ever read. It has everything, survival stories, heartbreak, triumphs, fucking Yonkers.

What we know so far about the movie is that the film rights were bought by Brad Pitt's production company some years back, and some scripts have been floating around ever since waiting to get green lit. Now its been rewritten by J. Michael Straczynski who wrote Changeling and is supposed to be directed by Marc Forster who did Quantum of Solace. One article I read said Forster will be replaced though.

Here's some information about the book for those who aren't familiar.
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War (abbreviated WWZ) is a 2006 post-apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks. It is a follow-up to his 2003 book The Zombie Survival Guide. Rather than a grand overview or narrative, World War Z is a collection of individual accounts in the form of first-person anecdote. Brooks plays the role of an agent of the United Nations Postwar Commission who published the report a decade after the Zombie War. The United Nations left out much of his work from the official report, choosing to focus on facts and figures from the war rather than individual stories; these form the bulk of the novel. The interviews chart a decade-long war against zombies from the view point of many different people of various nationalities. The personal accounts also describe the changing religious, geo-political, and environmental aftermath of the Zombie War.

World War Z was inspired by The Good War, an oral history of World War II by Studs Terkel; and by the zombie films of director George Romero. Brooks used World War Z to comment on social issues like government ineptitude and American isolationism, while also examining themes of survivalism and uncertainty. Critics have praised the novel for reinventing the zombie genre; the audiobook version, performed by a full cast including Alan Alda, Mark Hamill and John Turturro, won an Audie Award in 2007.

This will be the Lord of The Rings of zombie movies. Max Brooks said he wouldn't let them make it if it wasn't.

    OH FUCK YES!

One of my favorite books ever. I hope it's not a pile of shit, but wouldn't Max Brooks do something about it?

See, if the movie has these kind of moments and manages to give a ''holy fuck'' sensation while watching it, while not loosing the dark humor and social commentaries, it will be a perfect adaptation. It's ridicously hard to fuck it up considering the source material.

I had the pleasure to read the book a while ago, I hope the movie is able to tie in many of the memorable scenes and expand on some of the blank spots of the story that were not in the book.

    Edited:

But if they can pull off an even half-decent copy it should be good so I'm excited.

Anyways, Im still hyped for the movie. Hopefully it won't suffer the same horrible fate most book to movie adaptations do.

I hope they put the really sad scene from the novel where that family is in their home somewhere up in Seattle, I think, and they were all sleeping when they here the "CRASH!" of a shattered window, and the dad goes down to kill the zombie while the mother gets the kids, and the dad gets bit. :( That part was really sad.

That wallpaper, is FUCKING AMAZING. Though wouldn't the tanks have more ease just running over the zombies since there's absolutely no way they could get in.

Also anyone notice the camera man standing right next to the sandbags (right behind the "focus" character)

The tanks can easily get stuck in the horde of zombies. And what happens if the soldiers don't win and have to abandon their position? The soldiers in the tank are screwed. No way to get out, the zombies banging on the tank.

I really want a visual experience of what happened to that Feral chick.

Also, are they going to have celebrity cameos for the reporters slaughtered in Yonkers, and the celebs from the mercenary chapter?
