Hey, I bring content that isn't late this time! I bring to you a Dutch band that play an interesting mix of melodic death metal. Try it out!

    Song's only 4 minutes.

I hunt you, a dream within, its all the same
I touched you, my time begins, you’re everything
When we were young, that lullaby, you wavered still
Those nasty kids Id turn the stakes, and now I will

    Life, live in sorrow
    Now, you live my horror

Apologies, no work, don’t try, its all a lie
No help they said, but after this they wont pass me by

    Life, live in sorrow
    Now, you live my horror
Its not insanity, but why, I cross a border
    Lie, I’m free today

Living in great fear what I was to be
I was just the same as them, see
    Never looking back at me
Never took the time don’t know me
Then you went your way forgot me
And I went from boy to sad thing
Lies and strokes brought me to hate
Now, its time: I set things straight
    Edited:

I knew who he was. It was the fact that Insomnium of all bands had a change in lineup that surprised me.

    Completely unrelated:

What you find while searching for "Modern Melodic Death Metal" on last.fm: Rise To Fall

Sounds kinda In Flames-ish. And I love the video!
Looks kind of In Flames-ish, what with the white guy with dreads. At any rate, I like it.

Have some oldschool melodeath. Company in Solitude by Garden of Shadows. The vocals are pretty incomprehensible, but that doesn't matter.

    Anyway,

Deviant Syndrome - A Day to Fall

Deviant Syndrome - Blessing The Emptiness

    and somewhat melodic

    Kambrium - Among The Lost

New Swallow The Sun album in the making. Here's the latest news:

We are proud to announce details of our fifth full length album, titled EMERALD FOREST AND THE BLACKBIRD. It will feature 10 tracks of the trademark Swallow the Sun sound of gloom, beauty and despair, and the track list is as follows:

    1. EMERALD FOREST AND THE BLACKBIRD

    2. THIS CUT IS THE DEEPEST

    3. HATE, LEAD THE WAY

    4. CATHEDRAL WALLS (feat. Anette Olzon)

    5. HEARTS WIDE SHUT

    6. SILENT TOWERS

    7. LABYRINTH OF LONDON (HORROR PT. IV)

    8. OF DEATH AND CORRUPTION

    9. APRIL 14th

    10. NIGHT WILL FORGIVE US

"I found myself listening to an old Finnish lullaby called 'Sininen Uni' over and over again, and suddenly images started pouring into my mind of a dad reading a tale to his dying child, trying to explain where the child is going that night, the tale of Emerald Forest and the Blackbird," says Juha Raivio, the main songwriter.

"Finally this image lead me into a long journey through this night and got me trapped in the limbo between the dusk and the dawn. The place where you face your demons and angels, meet the souls of the ones you loved and lost. Will we walk the night forever, or let the night forgive us and let us say a last goodbye? These are songs from the limbo, notes of sorrow, hate, love, darkness and light. The tale of Emerald Forest and the Blackbird."

We are extremely honoured to have Anette Olzon of NIGHTWISH featuring on vocals on CATHEDRAL WALLS. Her recognizable voice gives the song the depth and the angelic character it demands.

"When I got to listen to the rough demo of 'Cathedral Walls' I fell in love with the song immediately and I was so honoured to be asked to sing on this song. The melody and lyrics are truly beautiful.", comments Olzon.

In addition, Aleah Stanbridge of TREES OF ETERNITY - whose ethereal voice is familiar from our previous works - is also featured on two tracks.

The album was recorded during September and October 2011 by the legendary Mikko Karmila (Nightwish, Amorphis and Children of Bodom, to name a few) at Drumforest Studios in Viitasaari and Sonic Pump 2 in Helsinki, and by Hannu Honkonen at Noisework Studios in Helsinki.

For when it comes to mixing, we are more than excited to work with another legend in the Finnish metal scene, Hiili Hiilesmaa. Hiili is known for his work with HIM, Apocalyptica, Amorphis and Moonspell, etc. We are convinced that his vision, insight and experience will bring our sound to a new level.

The album will be mastered by Mika Jussila (Nightwish, Amorphis, Sentenced, etc.) at Finnvox Studios. The artwork is once again made by Rami Mursula, whose imagery sets the perfect mood for the album.

EMERALD FOREST AND THE BLACKBIRD will be released February 1, 2012 by Spinefarm Records. Follow us on Facebook and our web page for pre-ordering information.
Aaaaaand I have another reason to look forwards to 2012.

I love Swallow the Sun's Hope, and I just love Mikko's vocals in general

I just looked him up from Barren Earth, and I was going to say I wish that Barren Earth would release a new album. Then I saw that they did release a new album - just yesterday. It is entitled The Devil's Resolve, and I am going to look into it as soon as I get home.

    Grendel - Apocalyptic rain

Just felt a bit inspired. I was on a album signing for the first time earlier today. With In Flames!

I actually downloaded Silence of the World Beyond from A Canorous Quintet a few days ago and really liked "In the Twilight of Fear" and "The Black Spiral" from it. I haven't really explored their other albums yet, but it sounds promising of what you linked.

I also discovered Gates of Ishtar some months ago and I especially enjoyed "Tears" from A Bloodred Path. The album is full of other great songs too.

But yeah, this is the kind of music that I'm looking for. I'd love some more recommendations.

    Edited:

Oh, and feel free to check my last.fm profile for what I already listen and stuff.

    Edited:

Damn, almost forgot the content. Here's "Elegy" by Edge of Sanity on Purgatory Afterglow.

Though not remotely similar to Ceremonial Oath, I figure you might also like Ebony Tears,Ablaze My Sorrow,Gardenian,Sins of Omission

Sorry to disappoint you if any of these bands is not your cup of tea.
Give me some time to search through my music library to see if I can find anything similar to Ceremonial Oath.

    Edited:

I also suggest Crown of Thorns's The Burning and Eternal Death before they changed their name to The Crown

    and DECAMERON

    and Sacrilege

Neverending Dream by Crown of Thorns sounds cool, but the others didn't really hit me for whatever reason. I guess I'm just extremely picky when it comes to music. Thanks for the recommendations though!

    Edited:

Here's a cool song by the way. Black Trip by Samael. I have no idea what genre this is. It isn't as brutal as death metal, but I'm not sure if it would qualify as melodic death metal either.

    Edited:

The Serpent Garden by Crown of Thorns actually sounds pretty cool too. I'll be sure to check out the rest of their stuff as well.

    Samael were industrial black metal.

Every successive album of theirs became more and more industrial, under the metamorphose was complete:

Gardenian are awesome. Out of their three albums, Two Feet Stand is probably my least favorite, though. I think Soulburner is my favorite album from them.

I don't really have a favorite song from the album, because every one is killer, so I'll just post the first track on the album.

I don't really know what's going on here.

A Canorous Quintet broke up in 1999, reforming in 2005 under the new name of This Ending, releasing two albums under that name, in 2006 and 2009.

Then I go onto DarkLyrics this morning, to look at the lyrics to In Mourning's "The Black Lodge", and I see a release by A Canorous Quintet on there. I go to the Encyclopaedia Metallum, and sure as shit, A Canorous Quintet are scheduled to release a two-song EP next week, if MA is to be believed.

    What's going on here?

It was actually tracks that they did in the past to be included in the "Silence of the World Beyond" album but for some reasons I am quite not sure myself (probly not enough studio time?) they did not include it. Now that This Ending left Metal Blade Records they decided they wanted to re-record the materials they produced when they were A Canorous Quintet to celebrate their anniversary or some shit like that and since they didn't release those tracks, I guess they released them as an EP.

    Edited:

Oh and I doubt they would go back to being A Canorous Quintet and play their old style (which I really hope they do) again.

    About fucking time.

To be honest I gave up on it ever being released. Metal bands seem to have this thing about finishing the album, then waiting for-fucking-ever to release it.

Like it was over a year after Am I Blood posted on their official page that Existence of Trauma was recorded, mixed, finalized, and printed before they actually released it.

And Blind Stare recently posted that their album is completely finished, and they have no ETA for release.

Remember Sonic Syndicates old stuff? Eden Fire, Only Inhuman, Roland on vocals... Good times.

Why is this relevant? Some of the old members that left because of the change in style, including both vocalists, decided to make some old-style stuff! And in late November, The Unguided released Hell Frost! I'm listening to it now, and I can tell you this: It's great!

Also: A new band (as in: they haven't released any full-length yet) with a similar sound (and one really awesome clean vocalist): dEMOTIONAL!

Even though dEMOTIONAL sound really metalcore (and I mean, like, really metalcore, and I'm not much caring for it), I won't deny that clean vocalist is really good. He makes me think of Three Days Grace's vocalist - you can choose how to interpret that.

He also makes me think of Dagoba's vocalist, when he decides to do clean vocals. Compare 1:55 to 1:58 in that dEMOTIONAL song to Dagoba's "The Things Within," at 0:23 for example.

February will be a good month. First StS will release what is according to, you know, Jari Mäenpää "Propably the best Swallow the Sun album ever!!" (Video from which will soon be released)
After that, it's straight over to the folkier side with Eluveities new album Helvetios! Here's two songs from it:

    Meet The Enemy

    A Rose For Epona

Can't wait for the new Swallow the Sun album.

Here's hoping the clean vocals are mixed in a bit better (they're very quiet on New Moon).

The new Barren Earth album is slated to release at the end of this month, too. Can't wait for that, either.

Also, yay, Mikko's clean vocals are placed far better in the mix than in New Moon. I can actually hear them!

Holy female vocals. I can already tell this album is gonna be great.

And the metal is as crisp as ever. 4:43. Hnng.

Fact they have a music video at all is a big plus. The fact the video isn't recorded on a handy cam is even better. The fact it's high quality is better yet.

Seems very professional. Which one is your mate?

Also, is Cannibal Corpse a major influence? Because I hear a lot of it. I wouldn't really call it "melodic" death metal, though. Short of the solos, there's not much in the way of melody. I'd say their band is far closer to simply "death metal" than "melodic."

    Not bad, though.

The vox. I also thought that as well, although they are sometimes referred to as 'Doom Metal'. They're really big in the metal music community for New Zealand and they are starting to get recognized internationally.

If you look through the thread history, a good portion of it is Herr Sven and I bouncing content between the two of us, usually with small bursts of content from other users. Herr Sven has probably been the most consistent poster of content here, seeing as I haven't had a chance to look for more music until tonight.

So far, that Leviathan album is the only thing that's really stuck out to me. I found a nice EP, but it only had three tracks on it, so I decided against getting it. Other than that, I've found a few nice-sounding, though decidedly generic bands. Though the song I am listening to right now, if not exactly catching my attention away from writing this post, at least has a very thick chunk to the guitars, and the vocal melodies are more than just monotone shouts.

Swallow the Sun and Barren Earth, hurry up already. Oh, Opeth, you can make another Blackwater Park-esque album, too. I would be okay if you did that. I'd prefer if you stayed away from another Heritage, though; wasn't quite my cup of tea.

    Edited:

Fucking. The song I just listened to is also part of a three-song EP.

    Edited:

And more generic. Fuck it. I'm going to bed.

In the morning, I shall scour Metal Encyclopaedia for bands that fuse power and death metal in some way. Simply because that's possibly the only fusion of death I haven't searched for yet.

    Edited:

Okay, this is just killing me. I randomly remembered an industrial band I found about a year ago. I know I posted it on Facebook when I found it, but unfortunately Facebook's archives apparently only go back about 6 months. I'm fairly certain I posted it here as well, but I can't find it through search.

The band was a Russian band, whose name started with an "X". The cover for the album art, which was the video was for the song (YouTube) was that of a flaming disco ball. The band played a very bizarre mix of melodic death metal with disco/dance, and the vocals alternated between deep death grunts and a really annoying, high-pitched J-Pop female singer.

If anyone can find this band for me, I will love you long time. I'm not holding my breath though.
