Man how did a loud, unexpected noise/sight startle me?
But I knew it was coming (especially the camera part). I already saw a video of that part and I still shat my pants.

Yeah I didn't realize how saving worked and clicked some button by accident in the menu and had to restart and it still scared me in the intro, I even turned down my volume this time and it still made me jump a bit.

Also could someone who's hosted a game tell me what to do? I want to play with some friends online but when I invite them the server is 'not responding' and it doesn't show up in the servers browser, ports are forwarded and it's sv_lan 0.

If you're bothered by the lack of a quick save function here's a fix for that.
First open up console with ~ and type in bind f6 "save quick" and bind f9 "load quick" you can replace f6 and f9 with whatever keys you want.

In launch options for the game put this -num_edicts 2047

    It should fix your issue.

I had that problem too until I asked Rumpel, the main dude behind the mod, and he says to use the desktop icon called "Launch Cry of Fear" that you first installed with the setup. Fixed it right up.

Now, however, I'm stuck in the game because I keep getting caught by this jackass with a chainsaw because I run out of sprint too quickly. The first time I went through the hallway he spawns in, he killed me in exactly 1.2 seconds.

Quite a scare, but not very fair. (Yes the rhyme is intentional.)

I'm playing the game by myself on a big tv up close in the dark, full sound. I'm having no major problems whatsoever, and this mod is probably THE BEST mod I have ever played, and I have played a LOT of mods. I do not scare easy, but I did jump at a few parts, not finished yet but I'm lovin every minute of it. A few parts were a bit confusing, but that's part of the fun. I felt like I was playing silent hill 1 and 2 + resident evil 2 in first person, these modders produced something really great here :) I do not understand everyone's problem with saving, the only trouble I had with difficulty was when I started the game on hard at first, and was raped by hammers. When I played it in normal it felt perfectly balanced, cant wait to do a nightmare play through after I beat the game

Sorry for all of you having bugs, hope any problems you have get worked out so you can also enjoy this to the fullest

On the part with the chainsaw guy don't sprint until you run out of stamina. Sprint until you are very low on stamina then keep walking. Your normal walk is pretty fast in comparison with out of stamina walking.

Walk around the main part of the town and you will find pieces of paper. One will be the username. The other the password. Do that and you get the padlock combo.

That saved my butt for like 10 seconds until I get to a door with 3 boards I have to destroy before entering, yet I always get skewered on the third board. What now?

If you haven't discovered it yet, but have got a Glock, you don't need it. The elevator next to the door on the floor you entered the building on now abruptly works for no reason, and it'll take you to where you need to go.

It was fucking annoying when I did that bit and got bored
I don't know what you're talking about I have the glock and    none of the elevators work

So I was playing co-op with my friends and then the game crashed on all of us. We got pretty damn far but when he tries to host it again we have to start from the very VERY beginning. Is there a way to load the maps manually so we can start where we left off?

If I remember correctly..   There is a lever on the wall you can pull that brings down a wall that stops him from getting in.

you can use the "changelevel <map>" command, if you know the map name that you were on, but you'll lose all your items that you had and you will only get what the level start gives you(usually shotty/pistol/stick or pistol/stick) with very little ammo.

Phew, finally made it past the chainsaw guy. I've found all the guns so far but now I'm going to have to leave one behind. Which is smarter to drop in terms of what comes ahead?     The glock, the AR-15, the Remington, the Hunting Rifle, or the VP70?

You're comparing a finished singleplayer and co-op Half Life mod to a still in development Half Life 2 multiplayer mod.

    Nonetheless, the mod is excellent.

The best opinion I can give is, the Single Player is fucking fantastic and has a lot of replay ability considering the second play through is practically a different game. There are tons of unlockables and great gameplay.

THE MP, on the other hand is kinda buggy, kinda un balanced and more just for a group fun, it may not be as story driven or complex as single player and its not nearly as scary its still a great MP to play.

All in all id say this is definitely the best hl1/hl2 mod I have ever played. Its got so much content that its basically a Full game in my opinion. The single player I would pay $10 for, unlike Dear Esther.

The Mod has had a 4 year + development time.

CO-OP has only been worked on for about the last 6-8 months, and is very beta / tacked on ,they said. THey only added it cause some people asked for it...

So yeah, of course it's not that good, but it has potential.

Yes, I got the Tape myself, can't find the video player, and respawning enemies pisses me off.

    CO-OP takes place after SP..

So I'd so SP first. Infact, intro to CO-OP is a huge spoiler.
