Hello everyone... basically I got windows 7 a couple of months ago and I'm extremely tired of it.
Windows just releases crap after crap after crap, and windows 7 is what vista set out to be.
Anyways.
I'm looking for an OS that can run almost any game, software etc. just like windows can without any 3rd party help. I've tried linux(ubuntu) but you have to install 3rd party programs to get other programs to run which is a real hassle anyone know a good OS for me.
I mostly game, but I also code, and do projects on my computer.

OK, let me explain this to you. Windows runs Windows stuff. Mac and Linux are not Windows. Therefore, you need third party things to run Windows on Linux or Mac. Computers do NOT run on magic. Now taking questions.
Anyway, if Windows DOES everything you need it to do, (IE, game and code and all that) why do you need another OS?

There are OS's that can do this without third party programs.
I'm just worried that wine can lower my cpu.

Windows is the best OS for running programs that are written for Windows (e.g. most games). Anything else (ReactOS, WINE, etc.) is based on reverse-engineering and perpetually playing catch-up to Microsoft as far as features and compatibility.
You don't have to run only Windows, though. You could dual-boot Ubuntu, or run it in a virtual machine (e.g. VMware) to learn more about it. ("Have to install third-party programs to get other programs to run" sounds like you're talking about WINE, but you shouldn't judge Ubuntu by its ability to run Windows software, any more than you should judge Windows by its ability to run Ubuntu's software.)

How is wine anymore of a 3rd party app than anything else that runs on Linux?

You really don't specify what you want. What is wrong with Windows 7, and why is it crap? It does seem to do what you want it to. And, if you really want it to work on Linux, take the time to learn the ropes for something like Wine.

I assume you mean ReactOS? Yes, that's a clone of Windows. WINE is also essentially a clone of Windows; the difference is that it runs as a program within another OS rather than talking directly to hardware, because that makes it much simpler to develop.

Windows 7... have compatibility issues everywhere.
Running as administrator, changing desktop composition, etc is a real hassle.
Having games crash because of desktop composition is not fun either.
Windows 7 has a lot of problems, and is not a very powerful OS.

First of all, you're not making any sense. Your grammar is god awful for one thing. Second, have you actually TRIED Windows 7? It has almost NONE of those problems.

ReactOS isn't even close to usable yet. You're much better off running Linux with wine than using ReactOS. I haven't tried the last few releases, but AFAIK, most things (e.g. sound) don't work.

It also probably does not support multi core processing very well.

Its great but I can't run much.

Because users having administrative privileges all the time has been a big source of security problems in past versions of Windows. If you didn't have to specifically tell Windows when you want to act as administrator, malware running on your computer would be able to install things like rootkits with impunity.
OpenSolaris is not even intended to be able to run Windows games. It has plenty of software of its own that runs great, largely server-type stuff.

2. You have to in Linux too. It's called security. You don't want to run as admin and have malware just install itself silently with admin privileges do you? That's the whole point of having UAC.

5. Yes it does. That option is there strictly if a program doesn't cause DWM to shut down itself.
6. When you bloat it up yes. Else, 7 is pretty damn fast.

I dont think youre quite grasping this.
Nothing but windows will every nativly run windows apps properly. ReactOS is as close as you will get, but prepare to be dissapointed. Wine on *nix will get most games working, at the cost of speed.
Stick with XP / Vista / 7.

If you really dislike the security of Windows 7 or Vista, you could either disable those services, or if you're too dense to figure that out, go with XP. It's still a great OS, in spite of its age.

You need to install other programs to get primary programs to run? Sounds like you are doing it wrong. "3rd party" and "1st party" doesn't really mean anything in the open-source community.

You don't need to if you don't want to. Just disable UAC. You'll lose security, but no more nags about anything. I disabled it right after I installed Vista, but I'm not the type of people that gets viruses anyway. I heard they made UAC less of an ass on Windows 7 though, have to re-evaluate it when I get it.
Btw, what is this thread doing in the programming section anyway?
