First of all, I'm going to give you a picture to get your interest up:
Okay, Silent Storm is a game made in 2003, it features strategy with slight roleplaying elements. This game also has very detailed destruction, see picture above.
- Plot -
Let's see. You're a commando fighting in the WWII, you can decide what side. Usually, you just clear the area out of enemies, steal some documents or a person, and leave. Plot isn't really the toughest part of this game.
- Gameplay -
This game is turn-based. Each turn you will be given a set of Action Points, which you may use however you wish. You can shoot, throw grenades, aim with your scope, set up mines, pass along equipment. Of course, you are not alone. You can also aim specific body parts. It isn't really useful to shoot anywhere else except chest and head, since the limb specific damages only seem to work well in Sentinels. You can hire (Money doesn't come until the expansion, Sentinels, so you pretty much have to) other soldiers to your squad. These units are unique, so they don't come back if they die. They rarely die though, most of the time they just go unconscious. The units in this game are class based:
Shoots people, throws grenades, shoots people
Scouts stuff, attacks melee. I never really found this class useful, they just seem to get killed in every mission.
My favorite class. Uses a sniper rifle, almost never misses. This unit is particularly useful outdoors. Snipers become almost undefeatable at the end of the game.
Also not very useful. Sure, it can bandage stuff, but it doesn't really help the victim much.
Also one of the less useful classes. Specializes in throwing grenades. Using a soldier is almost as good.
This class can set up mines and pick locks. Too bad it's much easier to blow the living shit out of any door or chest in the game, so it's pretty much useless. Engineers are also shitty shooters. Mines are pretty much the best thing this class has to offer, since normal dudes cannot hide them well enough. (I think)
You can arm your classes however you want, here's a pic:
You can also see that big metal thing. That's the biggest flaw of Silent Storm in my opinion. The panzerkleins. If you don't use them, you'll pretty much get your asses handed to you by enemy panzerkleins. If you do use them, it removes all the fun in the game. They're slow, inaccurate, but ridiculously overpowered. Pretty much only way to take them down, is using a laser gun. That's another flaw. Thankfully, you can mod these little mistakes if you wish.
This game is way more epic than it sounds like. If you like anything remotely connected to strategy, try the demo.
NOTE: THESE ARE BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCES, YOUR OPINION MAY BE MUCH DIFFERENT
I couldn't possibly fit all the stuff in the game to this thread, so here's a demo for you to test.
Demo, or demo.
Okay, remind me of stuff to add, I'll get it done.
