Well, I figured this movie was just going to end up overhyped like most movies... But if people on Facepunch, of all places, are praising it, it's gotta be good.
I'll go see it the next time I'm off work.

seriously, working at a cinema, this movie has been the bane of my fucking life right now.
The only thing i didn't like about the avengers was the team setup. You have THOR, DEMIGOD, CONTROLS THE MOTHER FUCKING LIGHTNING, IRONMAN, A BADASS IN A ROBO-SUIT MADE OF JETS AND ROCKETS, THE HULK, CAN FUCKING SMASH ANYTHING, and then you get... a guy with a bow and... um... some chick with a handgun.
I was honestly expecting Hawkeye and Black Widow to have a romantic relationship.
I was looking forward to this this movie since I saw Samuel L Jackson at the end of the first Iron Man, four years ago. Over the years, especially in the last six months i've been pumping myself up for an amazing movie. And I can safely say that it exceeded expectations.
Already one of my top 5 favourite movies.
I honestly didn't care for all of the movies leading up to The Avengers... I thought that they were all good, but were lacking something.
Also, when a new movie gets a huge number at the box office, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is the most watched movie in the box office of all time. Seriously, with ticket prices rising all the time, movies are constantly getting more and more money at the box office. A movie's popularity should be based off of how many ticket sales there are, rather than how much money it made.
Especially when 3D essentially doubles the earnings in lots of places.
Did anyone see both the bonus videos at the end? The very last one was so totally worth my 9 dollars. I'd say you will have to watch a 2 hour 30 min long preview before you get to see the real thing.
...BOTH?
I saw the one that Reveals that villain dude that my friend tells me is from Fantastic Four but I didn't see a second one. Unless I have an awful memory.
I've seen the one with the aliens' aftermath and the alien boss (skrull?) smiling at the thought of Earth being a worthy opponent but I think I missed the other one...
The great thing about the fight scene in The Avengers is all the characters had super badass moments, more or less in equal measure.
Seriously, whenever Thor channels lightning through his hammer, hnnnnnnnnng
Seen it 3 times, going for a forth later this week.
But piracy is killing the film industry!
The Avengers is an amazing film, though.
Seen this. Pretty good movie.
I still think Captain America is a cunt, though.
imdb has it rated as the 32nd best movie of all time
I don't know why people think this is a good movie - it was so bad that I slept through the majority of it
Actually that's a mistake. It still holds a 8.8 so it should be below the the 20 top rated movies of all time.
You haven't seen the whole movie, your opinion is invalid.
Watch out or you might be assaulted by spergs who don't want to hear a word of critique towards this movie.
People have to consider how high ticket prices have risen in most places though which will contribute to this. Whilst it is a great film, i'm just throwing it out there.
It was Thanos. Your friend was probably thinking of Galactus, because Thanos isn't really from Fantastic Four. The second one was just them in that shawarma resteraunt Tony said he wanted to go to, just a tiny bit of humor.
My father promised that me and him'd go see it together this afternoon, we rarely spend time with each other so I think it'll be good for us. But he has to drop my step-sister back to her home which is 200 miles away, and that's after he finishes work, and I doubt he'd be back in time. Damn.
When I first went to see it, I was expecting something along the lines of Transformers 3: a crappy movie with a big budget. Keep in mind that I don't keep up with movie news, so I didn't know anything about it. I was incredibly blown away. The characters are engaging and all have personality. The plot is definitely more nuanced than I had initially expected. It's exciting and somehow still very funny.
What you said doesn't really make sense. Avatar was a fucking masterpiece. Surely a masterpiece is that good, no?
It's kind of interesting how the billion dollar mark before recently was some sort of impossible goal, but now it's more or less a hallmark of a good movie. Before 2005 there was what, just Titanic? Now we got Dark Knight, Harry Potter, Avatar, and probably The Avengers.
The movie is good, and these kinds of sales are to be expected after such an impressive buildup.
I do have to recommend that you shouldn't go seeing it if you're expecting something new, it's generic and formulaic. While there's nothing bad about the movie itself, you may be disappointed if you were looking to see something different than your typical superhero movie, because it isn't any different.
Avatar was quite frankly not a master piece by any means. At best, it was a good piece of concept work or an excellent tech demo.
Edited:
What exactly is the "typical superhero movie"?
Superhero(s) rise up and end up saving the world. Also CGI porn and the occasional joke.
"I like Spider-Man to be unserious"
"I enjoyed Spider-Man 2 and 3"
Choose one pal.
Also the new Spidey looks a lot less serious than Toby's Spidey. Have you seen the previews for it? Looks incredibly cash.
Also this film was awesome. Hulkster stole the show, and Thor finally got the awesome treatment he deserved. Not a dull moment in this flick, will definitely go see it again. Only complaint was the Power Rangers alien guy, didn't know what his deal was.
PS if you didn't see this movie in a "culturally enriched" part of town you missed out big time.
Not sure what people you know but damn near everyone I talk to is jumping off the walls in anticipation of The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises.
The superhero genre is far from dead.
Edited:
There's an interesting concept called "opinion." Might want to look into it.
I'm still waiting for the Captain Britain film.
his post was pretty refreshing
his post is just as valid as any other in this thread
"I slept trough the whole movie so I didn't see any of it so it's shit" is not critique.
I watched the film, apart from having a strong shield and quite strong himself, what IS captain america's distinguishing quality?
He shits American flags.
His leadership ability and tactile knowledge, combine that with his strength and shield and you have a pretty good hero.
Nearest movie theater is 2 hours away and I don't have any gas money.
Fuck.
Hulk is the best Avenger.
Was the movie any good?
Agree-Like
Disagree-Didn't like
lol xD fuck u no batman is stupid
Thor and Iron man IMHO are the coolest.
I seriously want to see Wolverine VS Spiderman or something.
They need to make a massive brawl style game.
