I think more games are doing DLC is because it's so accessible and easy to patch the game now, with Steam and all. If you buy the game retail, you buy the game retail on a disk and it can't be patched, I'm looking at AoE here, with all of it's huge content expansions. Though that just doesn't justify getting 5 new things in a 5 buck dlc.

    Edited:

DLC honestly sounds like something that fuck Bobby Kotick would've thought up

I don't see why DLC is inherently bad just because people like Bobby Kotick and EA and such abuse it.

DLCs have been around for ages. They're only looked down upon because the way they've been used the last few years, a way to bleed money from consumers.

I do miss expansion packs though.

    Edited:

Probably get sins of a solar empires expansion just because its an expansion.

The only company these days that I actually trust with DLC is Valve.
Valve doesn't release DLC, they release updates, free updates that added more shit per update than each $15 map pack for MW2 and 3. There's been over 200 updates to tf2, and a large chunk of that was content, up to and including New gamemodes, many new maps, SHITFUCKTONS of weapons, and new mechanics such as trading and crafting.

EDIT: i would like the Borderlands 2 DLC to be just like Borderlands DLC, with entirely different concepts(Zombie Island), a fun arena mode(Underdome), a shit ton of content(General Knoxx), and The Claptrap revolution one, which i haven't played yet.

No company should worry about DLC until post-launch. Instead they should try and focus on making the game the best it can be.

This whole scheme is really pissing me off. An entire new character class? That's just not fair.'

Does anyone remember the days where companies gave you shit the day you pre-ordered the game, like a T-Shirt, and a demo for another game? Remember when expansion packs were the norm?
Besides LA Noire, rockstar has also been very generous about DLC

Hats, weapons, taunts, paint, keys, you name it. That's all DLC.

So they release FUCKTONS OF DLC. They just release a lot of free updates and stuff as well, and in TF2 most of the DLC is obtainable without paying.

In Portal 2 however the DLC is buy-only. Although no one even understands why it has DLC in the first place.

What? Concept art? A lot of you probably didn't even read the article. They aren't going to start working on this until the main game is out.

Arguable. Concepts like these that don't make release were generally scrapped with some of the art saved for collectors edition artbooks or sequels. With DLC such a lucrative business though publishers are willing to invest in development that will make monetary gains.

back in the day this content would have delayed the game for months and months while they work on something that they can now release as dlc in the present day

I still haven't played any of them because I don't have any friends with them and I don't want to play that game without friends.

I must be the only person who didn't like playing co-op. I loved playing single player.
