    THAT is the American way.

Despite living overseas, I still got some mad pride in my place.

fyi, there are studies to support the notion that americans in general have great faith in their country but very little in their government.

What's the fishing like there? Seems like it would do good for Salmon/Trout Runs.

Also... As much as I love going to small-towns of Arizona, I hate the big cities like Tucson, Phoenix, and Nogales. Tucson, AZ present.

For my fellow Tucsonians... Why no love for the Boneyard or the AFB!

I was born in a small-town outside of Buffalo, NY called Hamburg though.

    American cuisine master race.
West Coast In-N-Out master race. I'm from Apple Valley, CA (see: the middle of the high desert). We're a few hours from the beach and a few from Vegas though which is nice. Unless you're from here you probably won't recognize the place but because of our proximity to Hollywood pretty much any movie that is at least partly in a desert setting gets shot around here, primarily at our dry lake bed. It's been everything from Mexico to the Middle East in Hollywood films. If you look at the mountain range in the background of movies taking place in the desert you'll probably see that it's the same one most of the time. Also despite what some people may think it gets pretty cold here in the winter, mainly because of the wind.

Oh damn, I had to squint real hard... but there it is. In'N'Out. Good show sir.
You should have recognized that delicious greasy look.

Seeing all of this makes me want to go to another country. I get sick of full blown patriotism, and hicks.
I think (for the most part) we just like to make fun of stereotypes about us being that way. I know that's what I was doing. Still, even with all its flaws, I do love this country quite a bit.

About Europeans talking about the metric system. I'll admit that all the important stuff we do here (military, medicine, science) uses the metric system. It's never PURELY the metric system though. It's always some fucked up hybrid. For instance when I was on the ambulance and in the hospital I would take a patient's height in feet and inches and then take their weight in kilograms. Still I like the Imperial system. Metric system needs something like the foot. The jump from centimeters to meters is a big difference in size.

What's the fishing like there? Seems like it would do good for Salmon/Trout Runs.

Thanks for reminding me to mention that we have Edward's Air Force Base out here where pretty much EVERYTHING experimental gets tested. We also have Fort Irwin which is a big training place for Army infantry units. The area around it is a shit hole though. Not too sure about the base but I don't think it's that nice either. Also no love for your bone yard because those planes should be flying! Terrible waste the way we just let those beautiful peaces of machinery and history degrade out there in the sun, especially like they did after WWII.

I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca, about an hour south of Tucson, for two years. I saw those massive fields of old planes every time I drove into the city. It was honestly breathtaking how many there were! There had to have been thousands of them.

I really enjoyed living in Arizona. The atmosphere was very relaxed, the weather was brilliant, and the natural beauty of the desert was just wonderful. Plus, you could tear ass down those desert highways and nobody would bat an eye. I used to roll to Tombstone once or twice a month for a burger from the Crystal Palace, and I took the windy back road because it had a 70mph speed limit and nobody ever drove on it.

Holy crap, I lived in Arizona for 22 years and I never knew it had a place boneyard. I want to see this so badly now.

Anyways, the military really has a presence here. I used to live over by Luke AFB in Litchfield Park because that was the only way my mom's side of the family could afford to get supplies. It's a fucking beastly base with F-16s and rarely F-22s/MiGs coming in and out.

Also, The Apache helicopter. The only state with licensing rights to make it.

Amarillo, Texas. Named such for our yellow wildflowers and bountiful wheat fields. We used to be nicknamed the Helium Capital of the World, and we're fucking awesome:

We use tons of wind energy, and it's perfectly viable due to our huge plains:

We have really weird monuments and artistic works:

Our downtown is beautiful, and has a very old-timey American feel:

    We make fucking awesome food:

We have America's only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility:

Route 66 runs through our town:

And we have Palo Duro Canyon in our outskirts:

    Be jealous.
