    Something you guys may or may not find interesting:

    koth_drogentote_1 (also known as koth_medicinalpractice_1), version 1 is now finished and complete.

    I'll be releasing it along with a video showing off the current version of the map to announce it.

    First however I'm releasing my Meet the Spy replica map properly. So if you happen to spot that released (I just need to upload the video), then Drogentote is on it's way shortly after (a matter of hours).

    You have to enjoy the game to certain extent for you to make good items for it. Maybe that explains why some items are not accepted in game? When you see an item in there that is a labor of love it is instantly recognizable.

    I fixed an issue where the dispenser beam didn't visibly connect to the patient.
    It's better now though.

    Much more than just 2fort!

    A brief list:
    - Created the Control Room
    - Retextured the "Intruder Alert" sign to have the correct words and made the texture higher quality for clarity.
    - Created the Engineer Cave
    - Created the Sniper's Den
    - Modified the Intel room to be screen accurate which includes:
    removing one of the hallways (hidden)
    making the door way smaller
    lowering the roof in one hallway
    adding spotlights with circle spots on the floor
    adding the additional windowed room
    adding the fire extinguisher
    making the normal window thinner and bringing the wall in that room closer
    adding the correct props (including Rexy's infamous filing cabinets)
    removing the stepped flooring up to the desk
    moving the desk
    changing the lighting in the map
    adding NassimO's animated map
    making the correct stepped up railing at the window
    BLAH BLAH BLAH!

    I could go on. I nearly went insane making this map. Simply because as you can see above, there were differences you would never notice while watching the original video. Things such as moving the roof down a bit or moving a window for example. There were tons of niggles like that.

    How should I attach the scope, any ideas? I've tried many but it doesn't seem like any fit really, the M1 does actually have a scope irl (optional obviously) but the scope that would actually work with animations would have it really far up the barrel, and it might look stupid.

    I love all these particle mods you've made. I especially like how they're cartoonier than the default fx. In fact, I'm using them all 'cept the Bombinomicon effect.
    Also, they go really well with the beta skins, which are simpler than the default textures.

    Pity if you can't use the real life scope design as it's pretty unique (and cool).


    Also, I wonder if it looked good with a muzzle device like this M1 has?

    Ok, first off.
    New versions of some of my old effects!




    They've all got some extra frills and are all compatible with SV_Pure 1 servers most of the time.

    Anyway, I've had all these piling up for some time now, so I just decided to release them all. Tons of fixes, updates and stuff all around.
    And a very special thanks to FlaminSarge for telling me how to get custom materials to show up on most sv_pure 1 servers!
    Are all of these more... intense, or requiring than the default particles?

    Don't know, don't care. That's why I don't make directx 8 effects.
    Really though, just look at them. They're centered more around being simple and flashy rather than boltyfx excessive particles all around. (I still like bolty's work, but seriously man! Nobody needs 17 systems for a critical flare.)

    Indeed! I didn't bother to retexture the board, simply because I didn't think it mattered enough. Notice boards change all the time and whatnot. That and besides the Saxton image, there's not much to see.

    I also do indeed intend to make more! I'm hoping to tackle Meet the Heavy's warehouse next. Then perhaps the Engineer's hill, and so forth.

    I don't think for a second that one has to enjoy the gameplay to be able to make fitting, good looking items.
    You'd have to like the way it looks but not the way it plays.

    But yeah i'm sure valve checks the stats of every contributer and picks the ones who plays a lot and buys a lot of stuff, would explain how terrible items manages to get in despite there being much better ones.

    You should do particles for the Righteous Bison, Pomson, Phlogistinator, and ManMelter. I bet they'd look ace. And fantastic work on these.

    Indeed. I think it all comes down to gameplay though. You never use doors in TF2, and +use isn't even bound to a key by default. So I can't imagine many maps using it.

    In this case however, I opted against using a model, seeing as the only 3D objects would be the keypad and handle, and machinima makers, may want to add their own keypads and such.

    That and it's a breakable brush (wall). But I agree with you. It would be nice to have one as an alternative.

    The TF2 doors look great as static objects/textures, but it would be nice to have a generic stylized door handle static prop to use in mapping for the sake of detailing.
