MILWAUKIE -- Snow globes left on a window ledge directed sunlight into an intense heat beam that started a couch fire in a Milwaukie home.
The owner said he left the snow globes on a ledge after Christmas and forgot about them, Clackamas Fire District spokesman Steve McAdoo told KGW.
The globes stayed on the shelf, the angle of the sun changing over the months. Saturday, the globes directed intense heat beams at the back of a couch, he said.
Neighbors heard a smoke alarm and called 9-1-1.
"Thank God because the house would have been gone probably in another half an hour," said homeowner Ken Gambell.

This almost feels like something out of a Final Destination movie

But of course if this was a Final Destination movie, the fire from the couch would have to ignite a trail of kerosene, which only exists because a can of kerosene was knocked over by bowling ball that fell of a shelf, which then sets off the source of the kerosene resulting in a bigger explosion. The occupant of the house tries to flee the house, but trips over the bowling ball and lands on the flame-engulfed couch.

Now if only I could figure out the chain of events that caused the bowling ball to fall of the shelf.

Two people were carrying a TV when it dropped, causing the precariously positioned bowling ball to fall of the shelf, thus causing the series of events described above.
