That's exactly the thing I don't like when retail games goes F2P - people whine over it using 9.99$ years ago and still expect to get something if the thing suddenly goes free. You get the status of having been able to play the game since 2006 or whenever you bought it. You don't get some fancy hat like in TF2 when that went F2P, you get to have been able to play the game for 6 more years than the F2P'ers.

I strongly agree with Death_God, In previous TF2, players who didn't buy the game, couldn't craft, trade( I think) Etc..
What would garry remove from F2P players?
Multiplayer? No. Why?!?! Cause Garry's mod was made to play Multiplayer.
And, If it goes F2P but the previous version, Alot of servers will get confussed due to they wouldn't know how many players are choosing which. So yes, I bet he was meaning for TF2.

Don't take it so serious.
The idea is, there will be no restrictions for free players, except one:
They can't connect to "sv_allowmingebags 0" servers
So, if you don't want new players (who didn't paid $10) to join your server, just type "sv_allowmingebags 0" - i know, that's what every experienced player wanted.
However, if you're making server for new players - type "sv_newfags 1" - and new players will see your server in "Recommended for new players"

Also, I think setting it up like that (restricting servers to F2Pers) is not a great idea, since it'll be more likely to make them stop playing than start paying.

You forgot about one important consequence of F2P: easy account creation.
When HL2 deathmatch was free for nvidia&ati users, servers was filled with cheaters, because you can easily create new account and get another copy of HL2DM.
So, if you're got banned from any gmod server, you have to pay another $10+ to join this server again.
But if you got banned from F2P game, you can create another steam account and join this server again and again.

When some online dependent games start losing their popularity sometimes going F2P is the best for the community, will there be cheaters and people hopping into new accounts after every ban? Yes, probably. But it will keep the game from turning into those games where you see like 10 popular servers and the rest is empty

Even thought Garry's mod becames free - your gonna still need to buy the other games so there's no big change,except that Millions of the people who bought the game are gonna rage & throw Molotov Coctails at Garry - but still i don't see big difference - except we get something good & i don't mean stupid Model accessory.

I payed for gmod a while ago, and I feel like I've gotten my moneys worth and then some, for the extra boost in community, I'd love to see it go F2P, I just hope to dear god he doesn't make V12 F2P and V13 for us only >_>

Anyway, if Garry's Mod becomes free, the best solution would probably be give us back at least half of the cost of GMod into our Steam wallets.

It wouldn't make sense for gmod to go free to play, because Garry would then have to refund most if not all profits to the players who bought the game, so would valve because they split the profits with Garry.

Personally, being the leader of a GMod community, F2P would bring in more players. If there are 'minges', you should have admins ready to take care of them.
