im guessing your steaks were well done too, without any crust because they have been cooked in a pretty poor heat.

Salt + pepper both sides, drop it in the pan with a little grease in it. Cook 3-4 minutes both sides, baste with grease/butter... and serve.
I think your steak was submersed in fat.
