I just got given a book.
"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Unix"
looks like it's from the 90's, mentions a few popular iterations and a few odd ones.
like MachTen and A/UX (Labelled as A/UK lol)
also lists a few Linux Distro's.

Oh and the entire thing is in Russian.

Ok guys, it's late and I'm a bit frustrated... but I feel so damn close to getting this started.

I just built my PC in a Thermaltake Chaser MK-I case with a ASUS P8Z68-V LE LGA 1155 Intel Z68 motherboard. For some reason, the motherboard has power (Shows on the light) but the PC won't start. It looks like the power button doesn't work... and I thought it was me probably putting in the connections wrong with front panel... so I tried switching sides of each. None of it worked...

Everything seems to be plugged in perfectly fine, I'm confused as hell right now.

The total amount my current computer costed must be around $1,100 (it was a gift so I have no idea)

Now I don't own a car but I must have sunk around $400 into public transit by now.

Well my computer cost about 2 grand, and the motorcycle that I am paying off cost about 2 grand. Why do you want to spend so much on your computer?
I don't exactly let my computer go to waste.

Also I gain income from youtube. Certainly doesn't offset what I spend on my computer, but I'm mostly buying equipment to help me make more content.

Its a translation from Bill Wagner's (not sure if I spelled his last name correctly)
So yeah at first it tells about what unix is (first page only tells about what is standard for a unix PC (TCP/IP support is the first example)). Then it tells about the "family tree of unix" (really basic stuff, mostly tells about which companies made it and what are they similar to).
Then it goes saying how amazing linux is and how did Linus Torvalds create it, after that it tells where should you buy (!) the most popular linux distros (Says that they are huge so its hard to download them)

Everything is really basic and simplified

I planned on putting all my other drives into that NAS.

Which I guess I'll just get a drobo and write it off as a business expense. Which according to what my dad said, the tax adviser was able to write off some of my expenses for a business claiming self employment.

I make less than people think, but people think in terms of their few thousand view video as their income. As your channel grows you all of a sudden have like 300-400 videos bringing in views adding together.

I can't say what the rate is.

Was at my grandma yesterday for easter, and also to help her set up her new laptop. Her old one had some piece of plastic under the power button break. Could have been fixed by popping open the case on top, but it was already having issues so she decided to get a new one instead. Fair enough, The old laptop was almost pre XP old anyway. I gave her some tips and some store recommendations.

That was 3 weeks ago. When i get down there i see a really good looking Acer laptop. After a quick glance at the stickers i see that it has an i5 and dedicated GPU. The fuck. Looked it up and it can run goddamn BF3 on low. She uses it for word

Turns out that instead of going to one of the non "get this overpowered laptop and give us your money" stores that i reccomended, She went to Expert which is in the sell you unneeded shit store

    Sigh.

Oh, and since it was preinstalled with Win7, It was filled to the brim with bloatware

    sight

Had to leave to catch the train after i saw that but shit it annoys me that stores does that. She told me that she had asked "I need a laptop for doing word and exel, and looking at my mail. I just want it to be light and have a good battery time"

So they sold her a $800 Acer when a $400 anything would have been enough for her. Hell, i could have bought her one of the laptops our school gives us (we can buy them when we leave the school this summer) for like $30

If they accept returns, take it back and yell at whoever sold her the laptop for being an immoral asshole then take $400 of that $800 and buy her like an asus or something at a different store.
