I've been on this site all morning. It's great. It's a way to learn new languages. And if you don't care about that, you can expand your vocabulary with the SAT part. I started using it for Mandarin since I'm going back to China soon for college in Hong Kong. I won't need another language since HK is mostly English, but I think it would be quite helpful for me to at least learn the language.

They give you a batch of words you slowly study and get tested on. You're helping your garden(Brain) grow by how well your memory is. You start with a seed(No knowledge of the word) and then begin the test into a small plant for your short term memory. Once you are prepared enough, a clock will start a countdown for 20 hours. When the 20 hours pass, it will say you are ready to test your long term memory. As soon as you pass that, you finished planting your first seed that blossoms into a full plant to go in your garden, thus completely your little steps towards another language.

I haven't started the long term yet as I had just found this site, but this has been immensely helpful.

    Thanks! This is really helpful.

Can you choose a skill level? because I'm going over base words and it's kind of boring.

I'm trilingual-ish already, hopefully this will let me get rid of the "ish" part.

I can finally learn my native language. Thanks a ton, OP.

Also, does anyone remember the website name for that project that was in beta where it was pretty big on Facepunch? It had a news article and every. I can't really describe it that well, but it was going to make learning a language really easy.

We get taught French and German in the Netherlands, mostly. However, to be able to claim it is a language you know, you should be able to do basic conversations in the language, including speaking and writing it. With the basic French and German we get taught, we don't.

    Genders are important!
Maybe because in this case, "die" is just used for the plural. It's a funny word like that:
    Der Mann (man)
    Die Frau (woman)
    Das Ding (thing)
    ---
    Die Männer (men)
    Die Frauen (women)
    Die Dinge (things)
So gender is irrelevant in this case because people/Leute is plural only.

If anyone has questions about German, feel free to ask a native speaker via PM. Seems to be a fairly popular language around here.

Thanks for the link, OP. I'm not really interested in any language listed (wish I could polish my Latin, but let's see what Spanish and Mandarin have to offer), but the project is a great step in the right direction.

This seems good but the people who recorded the ones in mandarin are awful, for some of the words they all sound like something totally different from eachother and I don't know which one is correct.

I took 2 years of German in highschool, this could be cool to continue learning it.

The basic stuff is really easy though, hopefully there are harder grammar lessons. German vocab is pretty easy anyway.
