The DLC will be available through SEN tomorrow. The DLC is treasure maps that show you where all the treasures are in every level. These maps are not unlockables in the game and buying them as DLC is the only way to get them. Each level will have a separate DLC map. Pricing wasn't announced. Also, using the maps will not disable Trophies. You will still be able to earn all the Trophies even if you buy this DLC so you won't be punished for using them.
There are literally hundreds of treasures and artifacts in UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss that help tell the backstories of the gameís locations and characters, and all are tied to Trophies. To provide some extra incentive to explore every nook and cranny in the game, we added hidden paths throughout every level ó finding everything will be a challenge! But we also decided to create Treasure Maps for those who want all the gameís Trophies but who arenít keen on exploration, or just want a hint now and then.
Since UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss is a portable game, itís not always easy to hop online and look up an FAQ. For that reason, we decided to offer DLC that integrates the Treasure Maps directly into Drakeís Journal.

This would be like paying for the Riddler maps/hints in Arkham Asylum/City

I hope this doesn't catch on, or something that is often ingame might become dlc

Haven't they been doing this for years as physical game guides? I don't see the problem. Just don't buy it if you don't want it.

At least with Horse Armor, your horses look cool.
And at least with Nintendo's "hey we're gonna show you how to beat the game if you want" feature is included in the game.

Sony just combined the worst of both worlds.
    That... that shouldn't be possible.

Youtube, Google, Gaming websites in general.

I stopped buying guides for the purpose of guiding me through when I got access to the internet.

Anything I buy now is cosmetic/collectors stuff.

I love that Armor DLC. My horse can survive a heated battle. So it at least has a function.

Realize lots of games have these in them by default, such as the Batman: Arkham games.

And a lot of games don't but have the option to buy a book telling you where shit is. What is your point?

Those aren't just maps of secret items. Those generally also include item lists, enemy lists, strategies, and art.

They suck too, but at least they have the art and such. And are easier to go through than GameFAQs. And have things not on GameFAQs.
And aren't something you could just easily include with the game with 5 minutes of programming, with absolutely no other problems (as opposed to including a book with every single physical game sold instead of just a small amount of them).

They also cost a lot more and I bet can be found on the internet for free anyway. Also, they are not easier to navigate than GameFAQs or other sites. Books don't have a search function.

I'm not saying this is a good idea. I'm just saying it isn't a new one.

Well back before the internet, it used to be you'd have help hotlines for puzzle/point and click games that'd be like $5.99 a minute for someone to tell you the solution to the current puzzle after going through a couple minutes of automated phone menus. The idea isn't new, but using the word "DLC" for it is. I think that may have not been the best term to call it, given the growing negative connotation towards the phrase.

Plenty of games have pay-to-unlock DLCs, this is actually not that bad when compared to most of them.

Cool thing is for about 20 minutes after the DLC went up on the store if you bought it you got the actual game aswell.
So that was Uncharted for £0.79, as soon as I was about to buy it they took the store down for "maintenance" and then the DLC vanished though.

Well, this is kinda stupid. The DLC should probably be new parts of the Golden Abyss, or cosmetic alternate costumes made by the art team during the later stages of development, not a MAP that shows the locations of all the secrets! Secrets should be secrets that you find by yourself, maybe even hidden in plain sight (the best kind of hiding), not things that are plainly revealed to you by paying for a sodding map!

Besides, it eliminates the fun brought to those avid searchers who locate all the things and post the secrets on an Uncharted wiki, which you could access from your smartphone or computers. How dumb do Sony think we are?

The Skate games have something like this, there's DLC you can buy that unlocks everything in the game; something free cheat codes used to do.

You are literally paying money to make the game easier.

In a way I don't mind it when they do things like this. Paying for cheat codes is complete robbery (Saints Row 3), but paying for maps and things is fair enough by my books. It's entirely optional, you don't have to do it, you can get them for free elsewhere but if you want the convinience then you can pay a little.

Just throwing this out there, even if a little late for the first post but:

Burnout paradise key to the city DLC.
Gives you EVERYTHING for a price.
You can complete the game by paying, this isn't as bad as that on any level.
