note that this is a pretty large article so im only putting the introduction. i suggest reading it and see the story about the black sheep of cod.
[release]Five months before the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a small team of developers began work on a top-secret, third-person Call of Duty spin-off. Set in Italy during World War II, Call of Duty: Devil's Brigade would feature squad-based mechanics, exploration, and a grim story about a team of skillfully trained killing machines.

By contrast, the development team was tame; mostly friendly and ambitious industry veterans. Early on, the project had everything going for it: top talent, the publisher's financial support, and the blessing of original Call of Duty developer, Infinity Ward. In March 2008, nine months into development, Devil's Brigade was unceremoniously canceled.[/release]

honestly something like this would be nice to change up the cod series (somewhat), or even going back to it's WW2 roots

    Would've loved to play this.
Seems like there was a lot of thought put into it too, unlike many spin-offs.

Well, as the article said, it was the Vivendi merger that fucked this and put COD on the track it is on now.

No thanks, WWII has been done to death. However, I think Russia is a little tired of being the bad guy. How about we just stop making any Call of Duty titles in their current form. Every consequent release hurts the gaming industry more and more.

    Edited:
I would however look forward to a refreshing reboot by a non-activision affiliated company a few years from now.

honestly i haven't really played any WWII FPS games in a good few years, the market has been drowned out by modern shooters and I almost would rather have WWII shooters again. call of duty 1 and 2 were (and always will be) far better than the current ones. Especially 2, that's probably one of the best online FPS experiences i've ever had.

There are still tons of WWII battles that have yet to be touched by video games. Just stop doing D-Day, Stalingrad and Operation Market Garden and there can be fresh content.

The industry grows hugely from each CoD release, both in terms of money made and social presence.

Yes but many developers have stopped making good games in the efforts of making good games and instead are trying to make games that are like call of duty but better. Except right now, call of duty is shit, and if you aim just above the level of shit you're still going to get shit. I suppose you could say the selection of current releases is becoming more and more watered down, even though I hate to use that term, it seems appropriate here.

This is Call of Duty we're talking about here. Everyone knows it was D-Day > Market Garden !!!BERLIN!!! < Nazis get asses kicked < Stalingrad < Nazis invade Russia. And Fuck the pacific, 90% of the time it doesn't exist simply because a lot of it wouldn't be all that enjoying to play. It was hell. Same reason there aren't a lot of Vietnam games.

First off I disagree with your opinion that Call of Duty is shit. Every release since MW2 has broken consecutive entertainment launch records, and the games average very well in terms of reviews (Modern Warfare 3 is currently at an 88 with 81 critical reviews). As games you might not like them and that's your opinion (I really rather don't believe MW3 deserves it's metacritic rating) but as a product it's impossible to say that it's "shit", when the numbers so clearly show that it isn't.

Secondly, your hypothesis is just completely untrue. The monumental success of games like Skyrim, Minecraft, The Witcher 2, and even if you want to compare games of it's own genre, Battlefield 3, show that the industry is only getting better. Sure every once in awhile you get a game that tries to ride CoD's coattails and mostly fails (Crysis 2 multiplayer component, Homefront) but this isn't Activisions or Infinity Wards fault. This is the fault of developers and publishers of those games. The negligible downside of a few "CoD clones" coming out every year is completely overtaken by the fact that every time an actual CoD title releases, it injects thousands of new gamers and millions of dollars directly into the industry.

However, I would love to see this happening. CoD in 3rd person should be awesome. At least the 3rd person tactical mode in MW2's MP was probably the best mode ever. Too bad it had close to no one on it.

Agreed, how Allied Forces were able to take over all of Italy by working their way to Sicily, the capital of Italy is mostly unheard of.

I want to shoot people on the moon with Earth guns. How about Russia (Or China) goes to the moon, makes breathable atmosphere, then threatens the US/Canada with spacemissiles, then US invades the moon. Solid.

I think it would be kind of interesting with an FPS made where the US is the bad guy. Kind of like we've turned into the country from Escape from New York or something.

Only if they can find a creative way to get out of the trenches without pulling super secret special forces bullshit. I don't mind trenches and huge mobs of soldiers rushing a line every once and a while, but I'm worried a WWI game would be too much of that.

They should do the Soviet war in Afghanistan in CoD. From the Soviet side, not doing some dumb special forces shit from the US side like Black Ops. Although if there were one or two missions like that where you supported the Mujahideen I wouldn't mind.

black sea operations get EVEN LESS attention. Hell I want to shoot people with Orita SMGs (one of the BEST smgs in WWII, same quality class as the Beretta M1938), Zb. vz. 26s, and Danuvia 43Ms.

    Khalkin Gol: EVEN LESS ATTENTION.

Singapore? most people are like "what that was WWII?"

    Winston Churchill posted:
The honour of the British Empire and of the British Army is at stake. I rely on you to show no mercy to weakness in any form. With the Russians fighting as they are and the Americans so stubborn at Luzon, the whole reputation of our country and our race is involved.
