Actually, i think it would be easier to find a better model to use.

    Or make one.

Did you guys weld all the verts on the model? There are some very heavy edges and smoothing errors. It helps to select all the verts and weld with 0.01 force.

I learned something today, I have no idea how to port PS2 models.

Apparently, you can use 3D Ripper DX with pcsx2, but the only real tutorial is written by someone who has a very small grasp on English. Has anyone else ever tried PS2 ports before?

Normally they're pretty laggy unless if you have a good computer. Unless if that's not the problem then what is the problem you're having with it?

Couldn't get past the configuration screen or if I did I couldn't load the ISO or some memory card issues, I got the newer version of PCSX to run with Twisted Metal black fine but couldn't run it with ripper

Last time I checked, 3d ripper only ripped flat meshes. The only way I ripped from xenosaga 3 was using mariokarts method of combining 2 flat meshes to solve for the missing z axis. It however didn't always work. However, I am at work and can't check the links properly, so I may very well be wrong about 3d ripper.

If it isn't too much trouble, could you tell us what you did in detail?

IMPORTANT EDIT: So, by some miracle of god, 3D ripper's overlay appeared on my pcsx2 window. Once captured, everything was flattened. If Novax can describe the technique for using two meshes to un-flatten everything, this project may actually go somewhere.

Also, for anyone who cares, GameAssasin does not work with models. At all. Neither program seems to be able to extract textures properly, but this may just be a setting I have to change, or just use a different emulator entirely.

Basically, when you capture the model, you get it from the front and side. However, this can be tricky if the model moves and such. Xenosaga 3 had a special in game model viewer. However, as stated, they slightly moved making it bit difficult at times. However, mariokart hexed edit them to t pose making it easier to do, though they still blinked their eyes. I don't think this would work unless a model viewer in game is available or you get the camera angles right.

3dvia printscreen might serve your needs better. However, you will need virtools which has to be purchased. It also breaks up the uv map of the model so you will have to redo that.

I will explain everything better when I get home. Just wanted to give some basics.

Well, I decompiled Jason's AA mask port and messed around with it a bit and I think I may have gotten something I like.

The texturing is just a test. I am not going to use that and will leave the texturing up to anyone else who would like to give it a shot. What do you guys think?

Also, the hair alpha isn't actually like that to let you guys know. 3ds Max's rendering doesn't do very good with alpha channels.

Here's a bit more detailed explanation.

    3D ripper DX method:
Basically as I said before you take a front view and side view of the character model. However, it has to be exact distance (except of course when you turn the camera around for the views). This is so when you solve for the missing z axis, it comes out right. But remember, you have to get the same frame for both sides. In my opinion, if this game doesn't have a model viewer (in game of course), you might want to go with the second option. If you should continue or feel you can get a solid view as mentioned, you will surely need 3d max to solve the missing z axis. Blender does not have this feature sadly.

    3Dvia Printscreen Method:
Now before I go into details, you will need a program called virtools to open up the format that 3dvia prints out. Last I checked, it required a purchase (or coughothermeanscough). This rips the model flat too, but it's just compressed, but all you have to do is re-adjust the z axis and the model is there. You open the file in virtools and then export it to something you can use (.OBJ for example). However, I must warn you this method breaks the UV maps, meaning you have to manually place the textures and fix it yourself in that regard. Should you do this method, make sure you print several times as sometimes it doesn't capture the data right. You'll know cause when you go to open the files, the ones with the biggest size will have the actual data.

    Textures:
Either way, you will have to fix the rgb values as I believe they are reversed. They always appear inverted or oddly colored, so make sure you have photoshop or such program to fix them properly.

I apologize if the details still seem vague, I haven't ripped using these methods in a long time. PM me should you get further in your progress or need help. Best of luck to you all.

Much obliged Novax. I used 3Dvia for my earlier post, so I'll see what I can do with the Z axis.
