Oh, and good price convertion (10USD=7EUR instead of the usual 10USD=10EUR) makes the deal even better.

Bought it 5 minutes after release and finished playing it about half an hour ago.
I think it was a very beautiful story and also very clever written! Not to mention the level design.

It was a nice breakoff from todays games.

It was boring as fuck. That's my opinion on it.

    Edited:

I knew from the start though it wasn't going to be any gameplay in it. Just pretty visuals, and a story.

But not letting me run, crouch, jump, turn on my flashlight manually without binding a console command to 'impulse 100' is just plain boring. I'm suprised he even lets the player walk for himself.

I played this as a mod. It was quite good. But to me it's not worth the pricetag, even if it is remastered.
It's more like a tech demo for the source engine.

I finished it and I thought it was amazing. The story was great, and despite the level of it's crypticness I pieced it together early. Great.
Though it lasted only like an hour and a half that was time well spent.

Completed it in an hour (though to be fair I played the original so I already knew where I was going).

Its really well made but I dont think its worth that price. Its something completely unique and I think everyone should try it but its just a bit to expensive. I'm also disappointed that they removed the graveyard scene and rewrote some of the original scripts which kinda changes it for the worse for me.

Really? Because for me all that symbolic poetry stuff overlapped the story for me. By the end I think I pieced together that    Esther was in a car accident and the man writing those letters were either the man who caused the accident or her lover. I guess the man fled to the Island in seek of redemption and ended up committing suicide by jumping off the beacon/tower.    The rest was extremely clouded.

Well I somewhat pieced it together in that I    saw parts of car doors on the first level and figured cars were relevant to the story - how else would they end up where they did in a crack in the desolate island. Later I saw a steering wheel by the stranded boat and a muffler and though maybe I was right. It was a long shot but I was actually right.

Then I saw the writings and didn't understand them really until I fell down the waterfall and saw the intersection. I started to understand. I didn't get the whole picture until I was at the moon-lit level.

Now, here's a theory - I may be wrong but here's what I think;    I think your theory is wrong on the account of the writings on the walls, and all the mysteriousness around that stuff, but mostly the fact that you turn into a bird and fly away at the end.

I figured since the writings say 'he continues his journey ('ascension' is also mentioned) and 'journey to heaven' I figure the island is some sort of limbo for certain souls, a plateu to heaven.
This also might make sense of what happened - the electrical diagrams are, like the narrator mentioned, diagrams of autolock breaks (with 21 components)
This man might have died on the M5 intersection 21 miles from home from failing autolock breaks. The intersection you see when underwater.
The girl pictured by the heap of car parts - perhaps one of the deceased of the car accident along with those mentioned in the story? Esther maybe?
My theory makes sense of pretty much everything going on on the island as well as Scot's ghost thing. Perhaps another soul on the island?

May sound a bit crazy, and it is merely wild speculation but in my mind and the way the story was set up it makes sense.

That underwater motorway scene was so well done, one of the coolest things I've seen in a game.

And when you look at the picture of the car accident scene by the beach and you hear a car pass behind you, so awesome.

Here's my theory on the whole thing, It incorporates both of your ideas. Kinda.

You were in a car accident but survived
    Your wife Died
You travel to an island, where you hurt yourself. but you brought medical supplies
on your wander around the island, you draw stuff on the walls,
    Chemical symbols = Drunk Driver
Diagram thingies = Failed Breaking system
You draw these things because, To quote a piece from the game "...for future archologists to grumble over..."
Then you get out of the caves, and take all the stuff you've written to your dead wife, fold it into paper boats and throws it out into the ocean.
Then you climb the beacon and commit suicide.

-THIS IS WHERE THE GAME STARTS-
You are now your own, or someone else's soul. Retracing the steps of the person who commited suicide. This is why parts of the island does not make sense. The ghost thing and so on.

Doesn't explain him constantly throwing the book he stole off a cliff (you see them in a big pile at the bottom) only to have it reappear.

I'm skeptical this island is in anyway real in the game, a real location in this plane of existence. It's fantasy, not a place a person has been and drawn things on. I'm convinced of that. It would also seem quite anticlimactic and wouldn't really fit the story in my opinion.

The writing on the walls to me is rambling scribbles but most of the symbols are equations to chemicals. In my playthrough one letter hinted at that Jefferson (I think thats his name, though he refers to it in third person at some points) is a pharmacist/scientist. He also mentions near the very start about getting an infected leg, taking a shit ton of medical supplies to finish his ascent (right before the radio tower there is a cave with shit ton of used medical supplies) and how the old residents used to carve white lines into the hills when they were about to die (in this case he painted a shit ton of paint on the hill referencing the bible). Personally I think we are some random, unnamed guy following his story and covering his tracks. As mentioned in the end monologue he talks about how his story will end just like Jacobson (the Shepard) and a new one will begin.

Either way some really deep shit but still very confusing.

Well the chemical written was an alcohol. I didn't count hydrogen atoms but I think it was Ethanol.
Drunk driver? Narrator mentioned a drunk driver.
And then the electrical thing would still fit with autolock breaks.

You're actually right. I noticed those. In the house in chapter 1    it looked like a nuclear explosion, but when I looked closer it was an ultrasound. I remember that.

If you buy this I highly reccomend that you give it a couple of full playthroughs. Like the mod, it will give you different bits of audio and some different visuals at times. For instance:     during the underwater highway bit on my first playthrough I saw the two crashed cars. The second time round there were no cars but instead a hospital bed with an IV bag.
