don't undated to 5.1 if you are jailbroken on 5.0.1. simply nothing compelling enough to give up the untethered 5.0.1. and the purported battery fixes doesn't seem to work either.

So I've contemplating jailbreaking my iPhone 4. What risks could I run into and what is the easiest and safest option to use.

I'm using a PC which is running Windows 7 x64

My iPhone 4 is up to date to.

I must admit I'm not very clued up on jailbreaking but I would like to use different themes and the lock screen is quite boring to look at.

there is basically no risk whatsoever, just find the right jailbreak for your model and firmware

if you hit any snags you can always restore it and start over

Thanks for the help. Got it jailbroken and apart from the spam ads on cydia which is understandable I'm enjoying the way you can change the look of the iPhone's display.

Everything went well I'm currently using 5.0.1 firmware. I do have a question about changing lock screens though. I've tried a few portal themed ones. But when I load them up my lock screen is still set to default . I would like to give them a try to since I like how the battery display works with the aperture logo.

You'll just have to check it when you get it. When I got mine it was a couple of versions back from the newest.

I think I read on some jailbreak site last night that if you upgrade to 5.1 you will NOT be able to downgrade or jailbreak - does anyone know if this is true?

I feel like I'm the only one without battery life problems.

I constantly text/listen to music for hours at a time, and it usually lasts 2-3 days without any charging...

frankly speaking the main incentive to get the ipad 3 over the now 100 usd cheaper ipad 2 is the retina screen.

the a5x processor and extra half gb ram were needed to power the retina screen. battery life is the same, everything else is the same.

so if you are alright with the ipad 2 screen and the a5 ( still pretty decent) processor, i strongly recommend getting it. plus it is 100 cheaper too. it is still comparable to most of the other tablets on usability, overall.

    Specs aren't everything.

Not jailbreak-related, but I upgraded to 5.1 a few days ago, and I have to say it really DID help with my battery issues. Before I'd lose 10% over night (~8 hours), but now I only lose like 1% if I'm unlucky. If I don't use my phone except for music for the whole day I can leave home with 100% charge and come home with 94%.

    Hooray!

so i'm running Boxor HD on Dreamboard, and the whole lockscreen shtick is confusing me. the dreamboard themes come with their own lockscreen, yet when i disable the stock slider, it only asks for a password and skips the lock that came with the theme. how do i make it so the included lock actually has a purpose?

Heya Jailbreaking megathread, I'm in a bit of a pickle and I need some help.

I have an iphone 4 jailbroken with redsn0w (firmware 5.0.1) (or ultrasn0w cant quiet remember) and the lock/power button is stuck, it will not move at all. Now this is all fine and dandy I was going to bring it into the apple store, but would require a restore first because I'm pretty sure once you jailbreak your phone you void your warranty yes? My phone also contains photos of sentimental value that I wish to keep, now if this wasn't just the recipe for the perfect storm the day before my appointment with the apple store my phone has seem to "froze" the screen is blank, holding the home button for whatever length of time does nothing, plugging it in does nothing itunes won't detect it either. The only time something like this has happened before is when I was using facebook and my phone froze up in a similar matter, I just waited for it to die then plugged it back in, I don't know if this is still the case because the screen is blank. Hopefully it will die but I hope it isn't something worse :(
Does anyone know how to reset a phone without the power button or it even being registered in itunes?

let it drain flat and charge it and see what happens from there. so now your lock button is fucked?

Jailbreaking voids warranty HOWEVER if you restore your iPhone, thus removing the jailbreak, they'll never knew you jailbroke so your warranty will not be void

It didn't work for me over 3G but that could be because the 3G internet where my university is isn't very good. Worked perfectly fine with WiFi

The html5 version is in beta. The desktop version uses flash so it won't work on the iPhone even if you use the desktop website. The only other option is to jailbreak and install the official Grooveshark app

I just got an iPhone 4S and it was already at 5.1 when I got it. I thought they came with 5.0.1 so I guess the AT&T guys did it. About how long do you guys estimate I will have to wait for 5.1 to be cracked so I can jailbreak it?

Hopefully not long. That screenshot I'd posted up there is 5.1 on the new iPad so chances are the same exploit will work for most devices.

tried to jailbreak a ipod 4g 5.1 with redsnow, tried to get redsnow to recognise it with DFU or whatever and it didn't worked, so I restored it via itunes and tried again. Second time it recognised it but through the install i got "unexpected error" and the failed, now when I try to restore my ipod with itunes it just gives me the 1600 error. And if I try do anything with redsnow it gives me unexpected error. anyone help me please?

Just posted this on reddit, perhaps you guys can help me too.

I do not currently have a home computer. Is jailbreaking something I can still do, or is a computer required?

A long time ago I jailbroke my old iPod Touch, and I needed to SSH like 90% of the things I wanted on it. Which is fine and not a problem, provided I have a computer.

However, I currently don't. (Writing this from my phone, conveniently.) Mostly I want to jailbreak for aesthetic purposes, although certain Cydia apps have caught my eye. How much can I change within the confines of my phone?
On that note, assuming this is, in fact, something I can do, can someone walk me through it? :< I'm not good with apple products.

I don't think you can jailbreak without a computer unless you have a software version that supports that www.jailbreakme.com website.

first thing first, we need the firmware of your device.
