Is anyone else having a error in Rome:Total War where once you start it up it says "Application Error:Failed to find steam"? If so do you know how to fix it?

Just re-launch Steam. It started happening back in like December and I'm not sure why.

I was just doing the historical match in Third Age Total War where its the Men, Elves and Dwarfs vs the Orcs and you control the dwarfs. After most of the Dales got wiped out/ran away my amazing line of dwarfs (which were so amazing that sometimes they would charge at 200 enemies and even before attacking the enemies would route) were helpless as they got completely surrounded by over 1000 on all sides. Before being completely wiped out though they still managed to kill hundreds being completely outnumbered, though I had one dwarf left after everyone got killed right in the middle of all the Orcs.

By himself he slaughtered Orc after Orc killing around hundred on his own completely surrounded, because the elves were very far away not helping because they suck, there were still hundreds of orcs surrounding him and because there were tons of Orc archers around there as well they decided to fire at him. So as this Dwarf was right in the middle fighting by him self, hundreds of flaming arrows from the Orcs from all sides fired at him, with only a couple hitting him and the rest hitting the Orcs, volley after volley after volley of fire arrows were fired at him to try to kill with with 1 or 2 arrows hitting him and him brushing it off just to slaughter another 10 Orcs while the rest of the arrows that didn't hit him either completely missed or hit tons of Orcs.

Though his luck soon ran out when finally after a long while of fighting a couple of fire arrows hit him good and he burnt to death, though he alone caused the death of hundreds of Orcs. R.I.P my friend.

And then after they went for the elves and the elves just had to keep fighting them and firing arrows and it would of been an easy win but nooooo it became a draw.....

The moral of the story is fuck Elves, seriously they suck.

I always hated that shit in Med2. Finally get to the town square, intense fighting occurs, and at the end 2-3 enemies kills tons of my dudes because they all just sit around as they go 1v1.

Radious Unit pack 3, you can get the full version of the mod for Fots here.

How the hell did the AI even raise such an army against you? I haven't seen such aggressiveness since my own Rome campaign. I've never seen such in either Empire, Napoleon or Shotgun. They always just fill half a stack and start attempting dumbshit sieges that you beat down.
I was using Radious Total when that battle happened, it greatly reduces unit upkeep so that might be why the AI was able to recruit so many men.

Oh god, just realised that my 5 star general in control of my gigantic, elite army has only 2 loyalty! How can it be so low? He's my adopted son and comptroller (FotS).

Also what battle formations do people use for single-player FotS? I use a V shaped formation:

The wings can fold in or out depending on how the enemy approaches you and the flanking untis can deal with their cavalry or sweep around and take out any artillery. Anything that enters the 'V' is almost certain to rout before it reaches your artillery and if it doesn't the elite units are there to counter-charge.

I'm used to the one of the preset formations out of Empire that sets 3 units in front, 2 in back. Altered it a bit after having cavalry issues.

I normally fight without dedicated reserves, every unit is engaged on the front line from the beginning. Thinking about it this seems a little stupid now, perhaps if I reduce the length of each wing I can use the extra units as support.

Yeah reserves are pretty useful. Allows you to setup a second line if the first line is rushed in close combat.

That is very close to what I do, except usually it's a two layer, with the first outer layer being line infantry and the inner one being melee. Usually the U is shaped outwards if I have numeric superiority or a good placement, otherwise it's bent slightly backwards with the general and artillery in the middle.

    but Im just being ignorant
He's not arrogant, the games are just bad. Or the AI are. That's his primary concern, the AI. Then he goes for historical accuracy and finally, other modders pitch in.

I very quickly replace all of my melee units in FotS with ranged. I tend to modernise as aggressively as possible and won't use any traditional units if I can help it

The only traditional units I use are Yari Kachi. but I rarely use them anyway due to my French troops cutting down the enemy before they even manage to reach me.

Also, I HAVE to make my units veterency the highest before I even think about moving the stack, its just a weird habbit I have...

Eurgh, I've declared my own republic in FotS in hopes of a challenge, I'm on turn 160ish, control almost half of Japan with a treasury of 100k and an income each turn of 25k+. I haven't had a battle where the balance bar thing wasn't 95%+ in my favour for ages. Normal difficulty sucks.

Yeah reserves are pretty useful. Allows you to setup a second line if the first line is rushed in close combat.
Thats the main reason for my reserves. If cavalry rushes the front and not the flanks, the reserves will cut them down as the main line reloads. Also works well against traditional armies that field 75% spearmen. Melee almost never touches my line with the front lines + armstrong guns decimating them on the approach. Reserves opening fire 99% of the time give that final morale break to make them flee.

If it's an Imperial army then the front lines main objective is to hold and engage their line as they exchange fire. Then I drop a bombardment in the center of their line.

No I mean it toggles the user interface on/off so you can have awesome pictures without the UI in your face.

Fuck you pope. I fucking crusade against Tunis for you and you get to keep it? That's fucking war, I hope the papal states have competent commanders, oh wait! I killed most of them already! I've taken Florence you fat Catholic bastard, and Rome is next. I've assassinated three of your predecessors and you're next.

That's what I think of your prayers before battle!

I will destroy you pope, I shall ride your corpse to heaven and kill God too! I shall then reform from the ashes a new world! A world for true English!
I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Symond King of England, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God!
