Remember cplcrud? He just released a blogpost explaining that he is most likely not going to write any more KS stories.

    Blogpost

Kind of disappointing since I really loved his stories but it's up to him if he wants to go on or not after all.
The more they say that they aren't going to make a sequel the more i'm determined to change their minds.

Edit: wrote a comment on his blog, asking for his blessing to make a sequel. A game hasn't inspired my creativity this much since the tales series.

I think one of the reasons this game made me so happy was because I needed it. I'd become disillusioned, jaded against the real world because I'm in a transitional period in my life and I feel hopelessly lost. I had nothing interesting in my life at about the time I played KS, and everything was chaotic with me scrambling to find out just what I want to do with my life and what I was going to do after school, and I was about ready to just give up, but then I found something to believe in.

KS showed me that life really is worth living, and what you decide to do with it matters. I was just about ready to go downtown and hop right in front of a Grayhound but then something as simple as a visual novel about disabled girls changed all that. By the end of my first playthrough I believed in Hisao as a person because he turned into the guy that got the girl based on what I told him to do, and I thought, if he can change, why can't I change? Why can't I forget my past and live for the future? And then I decided that, maybe I could.

So I did! The next day, I put my thoughts into practice and refined my personality to basically a fine point, taking the necessary steps to get out of whatever pit I'd fallen into, and it worked surprisingly well. I didn't have a single bad thought as I replayed KS night after night to make the girls and Hisao and myself even happier, and I felt even more uplifted when I finally finished it and realized just how much I'd accomplished that week.

I'd basically turned my life right around on its heel and it was all thanks to a good story I downloaded from the internet. I just can't get over how much the game affected me, it's so strange but so comforting. I was once told by my last girlfriend (ironically the one that started my depression in the first place) that I was emotionally weak, and I needed to change or I would just stay a doormat for my whole life, and Katawa Shoujo gave me the motivation I needed to do something about it. I became a happier person, I smiled more often, I exercise on a regular basis, I'm more socially outreaching, I got a raise at work; it just never stops.

So, that's my story. I think I told it in the last thread too. It makes me a little sad to see that people are actually getting MORE saddened by the game but there's not much I can do about that I guess. All I can do is tell you not to let Hisao's new life bother you, because you're the one controlling it in the first place!
This is going to sound dumb, but this game is helping me move on from my recently-made ex girlfriend.

so far this is what i worked out

Hisao-Rin If daughter rins disability>if child is boy hisaos

Hisao-Emi > both daughter and son would carry hisaos disabilty

Hisao-hanako > both carry hisaos disability

Hisao-lilly> if daughter carrys lilly's blindness > if son carrys Hisaos aryrithmia

Hisao-Shizune> both would carry a lighter form of hearing problems and some sort of breathing/heart difficulty > child is also childhood friend of shiina's daughter

Most of these are draft stage ideas, the main focus is that all the original characters have a child male or female with a disability that lands them in Yamaku highschool

Live scriptwork for my hanako comic going down right now, right here.

    Edited:

    supa secret script section

"HISAO MEETS DYSENTERY THE FUCKING CHICKEN PART ONE

Hisao walks into a dark shack, with a shotgun in hand. He turns on a small lamp, illuminating his prisoner. The prisoner, a large white chicken with a wig peculiarly similiar to Misha's hair, sits in a corner, attempting to engage in a staring contest with Hisao.
Hisao of course couldn't give less of a fuck. Placing his shotgun on the table, he grabs some rope, and proceeds to tie up his defenseless prisoner in a somewhat sexually comprimising position.
    Hisao: Who's the daddy, Hen?
Hisao grins, as he lifts up an axe. With one feel swoop, off comes the chicken's head. Unfortunately, this physical exertion also triggers Hisao's heart, and with a loud HNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG, he falls dead next to his prey.

    The end."

Considering the reception of Katawa Shoujo, I'm not surprised to see people already pushing for and beginning to draft ideas for a sort of sequel, carrying on from the story(ies) of Katawa Shoujo or not.

I hope with all my heart that the quality of the script is on par, though. That's what drew me in to the characters.

    Edit:

I still can't get over how weird it is, having seen the discussions around 4chan years ago. There were so many times when I thought that the development would just halt permanently, and yet here we are.

2nd Edit: Still feeling a little sad, regardless of the fact that all that actually came out of KS for me were good endings and decisions (I really can't figure out why I'm feeling sad,) I'm starting to think about finally going through Kana:LS. I remember I bought it practically two years ago, and kept putting it off because I'm somewhat "scared" of it, my sister passed away due to kidney complications in 2008, and I'm still nowhere close to being over it.

Edit 2: So far i got the idea of Emily for Emi's daughter.

Have a character who claims his dad sent him to school with a ton of materials to build a fallout shelter.

You may or may not have thought of this already, but using bubbl.us might be a good idea too, for tracking different paths and points and noting key events down in brief.

I'm planning a small VN based off of a (shitty) experience I had in 2010 with a girl, and what would've happened if I made different choices (I'd probably be a much happier person right now if I did). Here's the bubblus:

    I was leaning towards kenji

That flow chart is clearly zoomed out (9% zoom) but it contains not just choices, but brief descriptions of chunks of the story. It's messy, but I know my way around it. Each choice is marked out as a choice and if it gives any points, it's written down on the choice. There are also little note boxes dotted around.

Still can't figure out slow text with renpy. Here's my script so far:

    g "2010. Summer."

g "Gentle golden light shines through the window. My head pulsates with that unique
morning feeling. I feel relaxed until I realise what my schedule for today is."

g "I'm supposed to be meeting Adrian, my old friend from Blandford. It's been a while."

g "He told me he wants me to meet two of his friends. It's the sort of thing I'd be afraid of,
but just two friends can't hurt. It's not as if he's throwing me in to a circle of five or more
    friends."

g "It's been a while since I even bothered with social encounters. I've stuck with a small
handful of friends recently, but I guess meeting some more is innocent enough. The others
    won't mind."

g "I'd better walk to the bus stop before I'm late."

    scene bus_stop with dissolve

g "The british summer. On a sunny day, it's great outside. It's refreshing, too."

g "I'm supposed to be there by 11am. It's 9am now, so I guess I'm set. May even be early
    if I'm lucky."

g "I can feel the air breezing up and in to my nose. A faint smell of petrol seems to be coming
in, too. I wonder if all the toxicity in an urban environment is ever going to have any real
    effect on my health."
Would I have to put {slow} or something before every single line?

This game certainly changed my life. After wasting about 18 hours of my sickdays in it, I can safely say that this game is only one thing, and that's really bad writing. While there have been individual pieces that were actually quite great writing, the majority is just awful. While things like dodging the "proudest part of my body" is somewhat understandable (for an edgy dating blabla), the mentally deteriorated protagonist and his sometimes just painful thoughts ruin most of the experience. (O HEY SHE LOST SOMETHING IN THAT CARCRASH AND HER DADDY IS AWAY LETS VISIT HIM O HEY IM SURE SHE WAS DRIVING TOO AND STUFF YEAH SURE NOTHING CONNECTS HERE WHAT THE FUCK IS LOGIC IM JUST A SCIENTIST LOL)
The atempt at conveying a "disabled people are totally cool to hang out with and love and stuff look past their disabilites blabla" in itself isn't wrong, but the constant repetition in often completely out of context situations doesn't really give the game a convenient side message, but rather just annoy. Considering that disabilities are kind of mentioned all the time, there isn't much of it spent on actually going into more detail about them and how they influence the lifes, rather how they totally don't do anyhting but a little tiny bit.
The dating is pretty horrible, because all characters pretty much just jump from differnet states from one moment to the next, seeming almost as bipolar as Yuuko. The sex scenes, while I'd agree with the author that they should be there, aren't really very fitting as they are and seem to be pasted in at often very weird points into the relationships. Why they never mentioned that Emi's pussy tastes like strawberries is absolutely beyond me.
While Kenji and Rin add a somewhat (good) comedic aspect to the game, it feels horribly out of place most, if not all of the time.
They also never mentioned Hanako's singing again later on, which considering it is a pretty big chunk of the little things that are revealed about the later-rape-victim seems like a huge letdown.
But hey, Hisao obviously is a genius, handsome, understanding and great lover, so what crippled women wouldn't want that hot shot with his "disability" - Great message here as well!

However, to mention a few thinks that were positive in some way or another, I liked the fact that all the arcs differed to some extend, as wellas the characters being unique (in the game world).
So yeah, should I ever feel the need to read about a guy reading with a sheepish look on his face in a gingerly manner, this game would certainly be my first choice. For (more than 5 %) quality writing and constant drawing (seriously, how many artists unable to draw the same character did they use in this?), I'll have to go somewhere else.
Please go find your Wai-fus and Wi-fes somewhere else, where the writer at least bothered to be somewhat consistent and actually put some life in their characters, disabled (or defaced) or not. As much as I don't care about disabilities and think it's great that someone tried to show off that there are great personalities (with social-trouble for almsot all of them tho, in this game) found, I'm afraid they didn't do a too great job with those personalities. But hey, maybe they didn't even want to do that, heck if I know. Whoever wrote the good parts should go solo and make an actual good thing like this, I guess.

My highlight definately was when I got kicked out of the house with a huge smile with mocking eyes, I mean seriously, they had proper stills, and used them before, what's up with that?

Elbows too missing, would not fuck 0/10

I read that whole thing, and you bring up a lot of interesting (sometimes misguided) points. I personally think the game's writing is good, because it takes something that's completely ridiculous to a lot of people (an entire school full of people with disabilities and lots of pretty, disabled girls to go along with it) and tries its hardest to turn that into normality.

But somehow, after reading that huge clusterfuck paragraph, all I can think is:

They also never mentioned Hanako's singing again later on, which considering it is a pretty big chunk of the little things that are revealed about the later-rape-victim seems like a huge letdown.

And it fails horribly at that. While the quality of writing is to soem extent taste, it does not relate to the message that's suppsoed to be conveyd, it merely is a way of doing so. And I strongly believe that the majority of the writing in this game is absolutely horrible, and I am convinced that my judgement on that is as objective as can be.

The thing is, Katawa Shoujo unfortunately falls victim to the same thing as a lot of semi-popular stuff like it. You either like it or you don't, and whether you take something from it or not is ENTIRELY opinion-based. Things that are entirely your-mileage-may-vary are really hard to judge properly, and I've come to understand that. I've seen a whole spectrum of reactions to KS, from overjoyed at its existence, to depressed, to morally corrected, to outright hating the game because of the subject matter. At its core, KS is a book, and it may just not be the right book for you.

I really do believe the game has good writing and I guess you don't, there's not much I can do about that! All I can do is be neutral and say I enjoyed it a whole lot and accept that some people won't enjoy it a whole lot, and that's okay.

He actually brings up a lot of good points. The relationship gap thing was very notorious with Lilly's and hanako's first sex scene. A bit with Emi's too.
I found the "disability isn't necessarily bad" thing not imposed because of the writing but because it was impossible to avoid. Not because the writers focused on it, but because they couldn't avoid it.
Rin's jokes, I didn't find out of place. Kenji's I did, in the last parts.

And I do think they missed out on an opportunity with hanako's singing.
