New. I know they started on Jan the 2nd, but when last years Christmas special aired the other day I was panicky! I was overjoyed to know that I'll still have Doctor Who to watch on week nights. Just wanted to inform anybody who may not have known. Are they still showing any Old Who? If so which channel and what time?

    Well that's not wrong.
    It's utter bollocks.

You can take every Sci-Fi and place it in any setting. Just because it uses fairy tale character types means nothing. Every narrative does, atleast that's the theory. It's wrong. Every theory is. They're just theories. There's hundreds of narrative theories and that's one of the most popular. But how narrative is formed is very little to do with genre.

I will always say if something's sci-fi based on the mise-en-scen and thematics. Star Wars is sci-fi. Arguing over what is more sci-fi is a waste of time but let's look at the basics.

Star Wars has massive lore based in science-fiction. To me that's hard sci-fi. And that is a MASSIVE lore. But let's look at it more. We could argue till we're blue in the face because media theorists can't define genre themselves. The most popular theory on analysing genre is based on audience. Afterall genre is a system we use to catalogue stories based on content. If I go to 100 people and tell them to define Star Wars I grantee most if not all would say it's Sci-Fi. If I took Hunger Games they'd be split(Drama or Sci-Fi). if I took Alien they'd be split (Horror or Sci-Fi). If I took Doctor Who they'd be split(Drama or Sci-fi).

Sci-Fi is often a genre linked to film technology. Is it using the most advanced tech of the time to the highest of it's capabilities? Well Star Wars and Lucas Arts redefined FX and changed the way we post produce films. So yes.
You can take any theory pertaining to genre and Star Wars is there pushing the boundary every time. Face it, Star Wars is there with Star Trek in the 'hard sci-fi' section.

But as I said. Arguing genre is stoopid.

One of these is not like the other.

Moffat's recent hint about the possible return of Martha has sparked Twitter rumours of Freema Agyeman(Martha Jones) being seen on set.    I know spoiler tags aren't REALLY nessesary, but if it happens to become truth, I'd much rather have been surprised and not know.

"Moffat ponders, If we did a UNIT story, would Martha be there?"
I saw something else yesterday on Twitter, sorry that I can't find it just now. Of course rumours of old companions returning isn't new. It's likely that Freema isn't filming for DW, she's busy with other projects atm. I just felt like sharing this minuscule possibility because I personally really liked Martha. :)
The pretty much unessential tags are there for the same reason as they were before.

Y'know, this time last year we woulda been discussing the early episodes of Series 6, but because of BBC schedulings, we've not seen too much of Season 7 except for that one trailer, whereas in an alternate timeline we'd be discussing the first few episodes of Series 7, with Dan probably posting something to do with a big twist, only to be censored by River Song.

I remember when this thread used to go so fast, but we'll surely get that around the end of Summer when Series 7 finally comes to our screens, and I do more on Saturdays than just play video games and contemplate the possibility of actually doing some work (and hoovering, since I gotta earn my allowance somehow).

Got a question here. Anyone that has the blu-ray boxset copy of Series 6, how's the picture quality on it? I've been reading that the quality on it is really terrible.

As in we've seen fuck-all of it besides a TV movie? Eh, makes sense; we've seen fuck-all of Doctor Who this year except that trailer and some guy impersonating a Dalek. Roll on autumn, I guess.

As previously speculated, Doctor Who is getting a press screening on the 24th of August at Edinburgh.

Day after is a Saturday. They did this with Series 6. Expect Doctor Who to return on 25th of August.
