He built a bastion after it was hit by an orbital bombardment a few times, quite accurate.

Hey guys, I found out why they're called hot-shot lasguns yesterday.
It's to troll space marine players.
Yesterday I was playing VS dark angels space marines, it was going good and all but then his bikers came out, zoomed across the board and melta-bomb'd one of my sentinels.
    That's when I realized...
My storm troopers were right there beside the bikes, my senior officer was beside them too.
Quickly I realized that this was a winning combo and immediately moved my stormies 1cm away from the bikes, called out my order, rolled for initiative and gave them First rank FIRE! Second rank FIRE!
needless to say that with eight triple-firing stormies shooting at them with BS 4 S3 AP 3, the squadron of bikes was annihilated (lol 5 ravenwing dead).
Yes, that's right. They renamed the hellgun to Hot-Shot lasgun to remove confusion from "First rank FIRE! Second rank FIRE!"

I was told by the staff in my nearest GW that it only applies to normal lasguns, but if it does apply to hot-shots, I'll be taking Stormtroopers way more.

point A: they renamed hellguns to hot-shot lasguns
point B: they added an order that applies to all lasguns
Point C: hellguns have always only been slightly more robust lasguns with an external power cell.
Conclusion? The guard has a dedicated anti-MEQ squad who gets an armour save against bolters and a weapon that eats marines for breakfast.

lots of different authors give their version of Space Marines, some have them as Gods in armour while others have them as super men and the more modest take them for genetically modified powerful humans.

then you get some who die with bolt rounds to the helmet

the best representation of space marines for me is Eisenhorn. Lore wise I think a marine could only take around 3-4 bolt rounds before falling so you just add or minus from the power of a bolt round I guess.

I usually look to the 40k RPGs when it comes down to powerlevels, and in those, a space marine can take anywhere between dozens to only a couple bolts. Depends on luck.

Alright, so here is what I am thinking for a 500 points IG list I want to start with:

    Variant 1:
    HQ
    Company Command Squad
    - Vox System
    (Subtotal: 55)

    Troops
    Veteran Squad 1
    - Vox System
    (Subtotal: 55 + 75)

    Veteran Squad 2
    - Vox System
    (Subtotal: 55 + 75 + 75)

    Heavy Support
    Leman Russ Punisher
    - Knight Commander Pask
    (Subtotal: 55 + 75 + 75 + 230)

    Dedicated Transport
    Command Squad's Chimera
    - Heavy Bolter replaced with Heavy Flamer
    - Pintle Mounted Storm Bolter
    (Subtotal: 55 + 75 + 75 + 230 + 65)
This one is based around trying to get CS into the thick of it, while Chimera and Punisher ruin everyone else's day. Veterans are just supposed to hold the line. Vox Systems ensure that if the Veterans will get their orders when they are going to receive them (if the enemy will try to meet the Veterans in Assault, it'll cut 'em down to size that's manageable).

BS4 Punisher for maximum trolling of Nid'orans and Ork Boyz.

    Variant 2:

    HQ
    Company Command Squad
    - Vox System
    - Carapace
    (Subtotal: 75)

    Troops
    Veteran Squad 1
    - Vox System
    - Plasma Gun
    (Subtotal: 75 + 90)

    Veteran Squad 2
    - Vox System
    - Rocket Launcher
    (Subtotal: 75 + 90 + 90)

    Heavy Support
    Leman Russ Punisher
    - Knight Commander Pask
    - Replace Heavy Bolter with Lascannon
    (Subtotal: 75 + 90 + 90 + 245)
Basically this time, instead of Chimera that runs around and cripples infantry, we get more Anti-Tank/Anti-Marine Punch.

I'd much rather have two hydras(75 each) for 125 points. 4 S6 twin-linked shots will destroy eldar, tau and any other transport that is bringing in their assault shit. Skimmers = dead with these too. they are also effective against most infantry.
    Anyways: opinions and different tactics.

Twin Linked Heavy 2 with S6 seem to be good against more heavy infantry, that's true, and you can always bring in Armoured/Scout Sentinels for support. Still, not as fun as 500 point LR.

In 1996 I was working the booth at Gencon when a short, quiet, mustached guy walks up and wants to talk to someone about the studio. He has a codex he's been working on for a number of years and he wants it forwarded to the Studio.

    The Codex: Furz.

    Otters. In space.

Ok guys, I'm planning to start buying minis soon.
Not going to be generic, I'm going to start a chaos army and paint them as Thousand Sons.

Apart from obvious chaos lord, What units should I try and get?
I could probs just get a chaos lord, and one of the 180 dollar packs and some bloodletters.

Thousand Sons wouldn't use Bloodletters. Lesser Daemon rules are the same regardless of daemon in the Chaos Marines Codex, which for some retarded reason you can't use it alongside the Daemons of Chaos Codex. So just get horrors or flamers and field them as Lesser Daemons.

    Okay. Bolded the important bits
Firstly, the Chaos Lord is largely considered a no-go. To make him worth taking, he needs lightning claws or power weapons, and terminator armour. This puts him at more points than a Daemon prince with Wings, who moves 12 inches a turn, is a Monstrous Creature and can cast Psychic Powers.

You're going to be collected Thousand Sons, they won't be having Daemons of their gods Polar Opposite, Khorne. Thousand Sons are all about Rapid Firing AP3 bolters and killing any Marines they find. If you're after Close Combat, take a second HQ as a Sorceror or Prince, or invest in some Chosen Elites, or grab some Raptors.

    My two pence.

Thousand sons don't get along with bloodletters.

The thousand sons use them as target practice and the bloodletters try to shove swords through them.
