Alright, feel free to laugh. They're mockups for the cover art of the second disc of a concept album me and a group of friends are working on
If you're planning on putting a band name or some sort of text over it, then I feel like these as backgrounds may be too distracting.

I think one of your main problems is you're not creating dynamic enough lighting to really define and show the shapes of the individual objects in the scenery and the scenery as a whole ends up looking bland and uninteresting (stop saving images as low quality jpgs too btw). Like here's just a few edits

I like the increased contrast in your edit but I was going for overcast lighting, which would be very subdued and whatnot. How do you get around that issue?

Does anyone have any tips on how to maintain proportions well? I've been trying to look at negative space more, but I still have a hard time with the scale of height in relation to width.

Anybody know a good site for printing your t-shirt designs?
There isn't one to be honest. Redbubble is about your best bet, but they're overpriced and the prints will be showing definite fading/signs of wear within a year. I still use them to print shirts for myself, so it's adequate, but not ideal. They use AA shirts, a print on a white shirt is like $22 for the uploader, any other colour is like $25.

eh depends, there's redbubble, mysoti, spreadshirt, society6, etc.etc.
    Don't use MySoti.

Dude I freaking LOVE making stuff like that on the laser cutter at my hackerspace here in Tempe. I sometimes have issues with our software though in regards to making sure the images are scalar because it's from China and half of it is untranslated
Sounds like hackspace to me! My friend goes to the one in Hoxton, London and he says he has the same problems! I don't know if they know how to alter the settings as his work always comes out burnt- even with laserply

Last time I used that site they took months to ship, I don't know if they're still like that. But last time was also because that volcano in iceland erupted so it wasn't really their fault. Apart from they're terrible late shippings and being based in the UK, I've heard they were good with pricing and print quality.

Overcast lighting does have softer shadows but this in turn makes the colors very saturated. You're using very dull and washed out colors in your piece. Overcast lighting, depending on the time of day, usually results in grey/blue lighting (more blue in the shadows) and white highlights, and the blue becomes more apparent as the sun gets lower in the sky. The highlights are usually larger and softer as compared to the lighting on a sunny day.
    Maybe something like this

I think this could largely be a composition issue.

Having this big, flat, object right smack dab in the center for a focal point kind of throws the whole thing off in my opinion.

the thing that bothers me about that is that surely in the time when that kind of building would have been around they wouldn't have had the technology to produce textiles of that size. if it was sewn together that would make more sense, but a single piece of fabric isn't really realistic

but i dunno, it was just bugging me is all

Damn, the tablet itself costs $44.64 (on their website) but when adding shipping costs the price rises to $117.66.
And Amazon.com won't let me buy it either.

I started work on a Choose Your Own Adventure game yesterday. It takes place in the Archipelago, and you play as an adventurer seeking a legend. You decide what kind of warrior you are, what kind of legend you seek, and whatnot. Here's some early media:

This is the game world. The map is offered to the player at the beginning, and will be accessible through the stats screen (not finalized, however).

The stats screen looks like this:

As you can see, these are the stats of the character Thaddeus (you can input your own name), whose class is Archer. His stats are all at the middle, meaning that in the course of the game, he has no outstanding qualities. He's just well rounded.

Brutality/Finesse represents the Strength skill. If you lean more towards Brutality, your character does more damage but can potentially damage lootable items in the process. For instance, if your Magician is fighting a goblin, with Brutality you could ignite his entire body, but in the process you could burn the paper which details how to get into the goblin's hideout, making you miss gold. With Finesse, however, you might just catch his tongue on fire, suffocating him. This leaves any supplies open for looting.

Desperate/Righteous is the Honor. It's pretty self explanatory, if you're a criminal people find it hard to trust you, and if you're trustworthy it's harder to commit crimes.

Impulsive/Planning is one that affects combat. Say that while you watch a bandit camp from the bushes, a bandit wanders close enough for you to stab in the back. If you are impulsive, you could take the opportunity and knock one of the enemies out, though that leaves you in the open for the others and you'll have to deal with them. If you're Planning, you would miss the opportunity to take out the enemy close to the bush, but you could develop a safer plan to take them all out in the long run.

Loner/Leader is also self explanatory. If you're Loner, you can save your own skin good enough that you don't need a companion, but if you're Leader, you can hire a knight or magician to follow and help you.

Godless/Blessed describes the Gods' opinions of you. It's basically like Luck in other RPGs. If you're Godless, they aren't very big fans and won't help you out, which also means that you can steal and kill without worrying about angering your Guardian God. If you're Blessed, one of the Gods has decided to help you on your adventure, and thus may give you slightly more loot, or that sword to the chest might just glance off of your chestplate instead of running you through.

There are three classes: Swordsman, Archer, and Magician. Each of these will, obviously, go about combat differently. There are three main quests, represented here:

The Tower quest is the easiest, as it has the least unavoidable combat, and the least distance to travel. The Library quest is next, with a longer distance to travel and more combat scenarios. The Labyrinth quest is hardest, as it travels off the map, making it harder to navigate, and has many many more enemies.

As of now, there's 9 main stories, with many different branches to follow.

It'll take me quite a bit of time to finish, but I'll update in the thread as I make progress.

Dont feel stupid for investing in a Wacom.

The I4 comes with things like 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, while the Monoprice one is around 1024.. The pen is battery powered which is a huge flaw for professional standard tablets. Not to mention the monoprice doesn't even support pen tilt, which is pretty awesome when used with photoshop painting.

Wacoms are usually more expensive than other brands for good reason.

    Thanks for the feedback, guys!

My original composition, if you remember, didn't include the flat. I added it to make the image a bit more visually interesting, but I didn't rework the cropping (etc) to reflect the addition. The flattish shading was there to reflect the dull, omnipresent light coming from the overcast sky.
