So not only does Game Informer explicitly say that Mass Effect 3 has a satisfying ending that leaves all questions answered, give the game 10, which it wouldn't have deserved if had the best ending in video game history, but one of the guys who reviewed it wrote an article defending day-one DLC.

To be fair new races were being found and coming to join the council, one of the newsfeeds has a bird like race about to join the citadel races but when the Reapers show off they decide to return home, burn their tech and hope the reapers consider them to primitive to be killed this cycle
Was that the one from the Cerberus News update a few months back?

It's less bribery and more the simple fact that the gaming media and the gaming industry as a whole are far too intertwined. Publications are dependent upon developers' marketing teams in order to get access to behind-the-scenes information, industry-only demonstrations, early review copies (magazines, especially, being wholly dependent upon that alone for timely reviews) and general advertising and support.

Review media is meant to keep an industry's producers' balls in a vice grip, but the gaming industry has it the other way around. The producers are meant to be dependent upon the media for exposure and marketing, but the gaming media has become dependent upon the producers. And thus, the subconscious worry of "will this piss the producer off?" takes precedence over "is this a service to our readers?"

It isn't going to be until the audience of said media starts losing interest (which is slowly happening with the resurgent power of word-of-mouth) that the traditional industry media sources will change their priorities.

I can actually see this sort of thing being partially dismantled thanks to the whole ME3 backlash - seeing as how a large amount of these readers didn't like the ending, they're going to be annoyed when they hear the media sites they regularly browse are accusing said readers of being "whiny, entitled brats" and how they don't understand art of whatever reason is being bought up, and then it would be likely said readers would leave, and we all know what happens when a media site starts losing readers...

There's something to be said about the state of a media niche that actively insults its audience.

I can't have been the only one to notice all of these gaming sites changed their fucking tune a couple weeks in, once it was becoming clear that they weren't exactly endearing themselves to a wide audience. Straight 180.

So apparently doing side missions in ME1 actually changes shit in ME2.

Actually took the time to do Nassanna's mission and apparently she remembers me. Gave Tali the Geth data and she's actually happy to see me on Freedom's Progress, rather than agitated and snippy. Dunno if Dr. Saleon's mission is going to do anything.

Any other shit I missed? I sorta feel like I'm a bad Spectre for ignoring all of those people. Does Ms. Pregnant-Heart-Disease-Gene-Therapy lady ever show up again? Because I totally gave completely unsolicited advice to her this time around, and I'm hoping it comes back to bite me in the ass.

You mean the lady talking about sending their kid to school?

because maybe education is awesome in the future, but i dunno if a 30-month-old is going to be attending classes. Actually, probably closer to a 21-24 month-old kid considering that lady was not visibly pregnant in ME1.

Probably, in Mass Effect 2 they're in that store arguing about augments and stuff that would help him because he's disabled or something.

Indeed they are; words should matter FAR more than the "tl;dr" that are the troglodytic simplicity of using a sodding arbitrary number.

Also, it's sad that certain gaming press put developer/producer appeasement ahead of appeasing the readers and giving them the reliable intel that the readers come to view. Sure give your views, but they've gotta be honest, truthful, uncorrupt and personal.

Also also, when the devs/publishers throw their weight around like that, it isn't really bribery so much as it is blackmail, like saying "If you don't give our games good reviews, we'll stop giving you exclusive access to our intel". It's akin to a courtesan threatening to cut your balls off if you don't tip her, or that one scene in Rat Race with the mechanic and his disagreement with the girl in the car (the one who flew the helicopter and got revenge on her cheating boyfriend); abuse of power through blackmail seems so horrible.

And now I am talking to EA support for the fifth time to see if I can get the commendation pack for Operation Raptor that I never got in the first place.

Edit: Well, that sucks. Kushneet from EA support said he awarded it to me, and I check in game and it isn't showing up. I tell him and he says "I'm afraid than it is not fixed"

Here's hoping next Operation will go better for me.

So, the Catalyst is pretty sure that the Created will always rebel against their Creators. He claims that's the whole cycle, yadda yadda, the Geth rebelled, and so did generations before.

Well... that's fine and dandy I guess there, Catalyst. What are you, again?

Hmm? The Creator of the Reapers?

    Hmm. Interesting.

You know I was thinking that he was something else before becoming the catalyst and ascending which excludes him from that category somehow because he would be both their creator and one of them, but that doesn't make much sense.

Makes a little more sense then the "They just never felt the need to rebel against me for some reason"
    but ...yeah.

Kind of surprising they left REALLY big loopholes in the story.

The reapers existence is justified because they are there to kill everything to stop everything from killing each other, and the whole star kid scenario.

I mean did they just expect people to just go with it?
