I think people are looking at the rest of Mass Effect 3 through rose tinted glasses.

It was incredibly linear with almost no replay value, unless you're importing an entirely new Shepard from 1 and 2, and they basically railroaded you into being 100% Paragon or 100% Renegade with no real gray area in between. It also relied way to heavily on set pieces rather than good writing, and the fact that they expected you to do all the DLC in 2 for the plot to even make sense bugged the shit out of me.

It was fun and great and all, but I would say it was definitely the weakest of the three games, even disregarding the ending.
I disagree, in large part because I think Mass Effect 1 and 2 are, for the most part, very linear games. Yeah, there's some diversion from the path when it comes to the uncharted worlds and whatnot, but overall you were being funneled in a very specific direction. Mass Effect 3 admittedly a little more so, but I actually enjoyed that because it constantly reinforced the idea that you simply do not have time to dick around. I can see plenty of replay value in the game, whether it be from the combat, replaying a favorite moment, or completely changing how the game plays out. There's a staggering amount of variation in the overall narrative despite the ending, and all the classes feel very, very different.

The game just does so much right.

Apologies if this has actually been found before, but i found these in the MP objectives_special folder.

Holiday event stuff, the easter one should be soon so i guess we'll see. There's a christmas/birthday present too but i forgot to take a picture of it.

And i found these too in the regular objectives folder, perhaps new/scrapped MP objectives? I'm pretty sure i haven't played a round involving bombs or a supply drop or canisters but then again i've not played anything other than bronze and one game of silver in which me and my friends got our asses kicked, so for all i know they could be used on gold/silver.

Drew Karpyshyn's original ending was basically copy/pasted from an anime called Gurren Lagann. The current one has a lot of similarities too, but it's dissimilar enough to get away with it. Drew Karpyshyn has always been a good writer but I find that he writes books like fan fiction and he writes characters more like something from Joss Whedon. He's better with a team. Alone he's pretty meh.
No it wasn't, not even close.

Wait wait wait, enforces the idea that you don't have time to dick around? How does it to that? I have a mission in my journal that's like "OH MAN THE TURIAN HOMEWORLD IS UNDER ATTACK YOU NEED TO GO SEE THEM SHEPARD BEFORE THEY'RE ALL DEAAAAD" and I'm just running around the Citadel dicking around, and nothing bad will happen as a result.

Giving you nothing else to do =/= Giving a sense of urgency.

Also, Mass Effect 1 was somewhat linear, but with Mass Effect 2 you could pretty much do story missions in whatever order you wanted, at whatever times you wanted, all the way up until the last part of the game.

I wouldn't say 'The game is fun so I'll play it again' is replay value. Replay value refers to having other things to do. If you do one walkthrough as Renegade Shepard and one walkthrough as Paragon Shepard you're basically done. There certainly is NOT a 'staggering' amount of variation in the overall narrative. The classes feel different, but they're the same as they were in 2, so provided you played 2 to a decent degree, you probably have all of the classes down. Even if you didn't, you can just play Multiplayer in 3 and get a feel for them.

Fair enough to the "urgency" part, but you do notice that some of the missions will be lost to you if you don't complete them within a reasonable amount of time. Priority missions are an obvious exception because they're plot-crucial, but still.

And, in my opinion "The game is fun so I'll play it again" is ABSOLUTELY replay value. Linear games like Half-Life, Call of Duty or Portal play out -exactly- the same way every single time, but they're a hell of a lot of fun to run through again. Replayability, in my opinion, is ANY reason to play the game again. Simple as that.

I've only seen that come up a couple of times in all of the time I've played MP, and for some reason I only remember seeing it on Firebase White. But it's just one of the generic activate four of these things across the map objective.

I think labeling missions PRIORITY in big bold leters and then not giving them a time limit kind of emphasizes how little of a rush you're in. Sidequests can expire, but more if you do a story quest before you do them. They don't actually have a time limit. Even if they do expire, you can just buy the quest-essential item you needed from the Specter Store for a very low fee and it'll be like you did it.

There is absolutely no sense of punishment in Mass Effect 3 from how hard they baby the player. Even if you intentionally ruin peace treaties and such, or lose a ton of squad mates, you can still easily get the best ending without trying very hard.

Well, we've already established that the ending sucks and does absolutely -nothing- to demonstrate what you've done at any point in the series. That's not what we were talking about though.

The thing is, that just doesn't cut it for RPGs. ME1, ME2, and most other Bioware RPGs are replayable because of how many different things you can do, along with the "that was fun let's do it again" factor. ME3 falls pretty short in the first department, so it really only has the latter.
