Thanks for the critique! I agree with the subjects not being particularly interesting. This group of photos were all taken within about a 2 hour time span. It was a spur of the moment decision because of the weather in Michigan being surprisingly nice today when I woke up. I'll remember to leave some more open space next time I go out and take more.

This was the first time I was using Adobe Lightroom, which includes an option to set up custom watermarks and logos. It was more of a "exploring" experience of the program for me.

As for using manual focus, I like having the ability to use the focus ring myself. Auto focus isn't always more accurate.

I was admiring the star trail photography that was previously posted and I was wondering, are there any detrimental effects to the sensor with Bulb shots that last about 3 hours/longer?
I mean if the shutter stays open that long isn't there a risk of particles getting into the sensor or overheating issues? Just a beginner's query.

I've read that you can get hot pixels or something so it would be better to do multiple 30 second exposures and just "stack" those photos together in photoshop.

A good pointer for this is that AF generally looks for a contrast, it will very much usually be off or refuse to focus if you're looking at a block of the same stuff. Try to get it on the corner of what you're focusing on.

Dude, they are beautiful! Moonlight creates some of the most beautiful images i find, i took a 60" exposure of the rooftop of the building i took my last batch in with only moonlight and the lighting was great but sadly it was very windy which made the tripod wiggle around thus making the image distorted and also i had no means of focusing well so it was blurred too. made me sad:(

Bit too cropped off the bottom, personally i believe it would look better with the gap between your head and the top of the image being equal to that of you feet to the bottom. Other than that i like the colours!

Currently sitting in the Maison de la Photographie's rooftop terrace drinking a mint tea. Wonderful view and lovely sunset. The only photography gallery in Morocco. Really, really beautiful stuff. Photos from the 1880's up to the 1950's.

Right, I have a question, can i use my phone flash if I wanted to have someone still in a long exposure photo, and not the actual camera flash cause that would light everything up and i want just one bit, would a led flash from a phone work?

I believe it would. It'd be like any remote flash. You'd have to play around though, depending on your settings the flash may not expose the subject exactly how you want it to.

Don't quote me on this, but isn't a star trail photo simply put a bunch of long exposure photos merged into one?

You can either do a single long exposure(~1 hour or more), which is fine to use, and can help bring out more features of landscape, especially in dark locations, or if you're using film.
Long exposure example

Layering(~30 secs per layer) can be used if you want to save the sensor, and can easily be achieved with free programs, however, it runs the risk of not turning out as smooth as you want, due mostly to the time the camera takes to save the image to the storage media, so use a high-class card. It may also consume more battery. Also works well if your camera has a bad bulb mode(hold for exposure time).
