I'll budge on the subject of story. The story is interesting. I indeed have managed to sit through most if not all the episodes of My Little Pony and watch them, and be interested in them long enough for it to have my attention, but they are not the greatest stories I've ever seen. The plots are mostly just spins on overdone stock-stories (like the Bird In The Hoof is a very common concept of "oh no I've been left with someone's X and now it's broken what do I do and also a moral at the end" archetype), but the characters are interesting enough (while, again, not being the most original things) to make it a fun ol' story to watch, despite having seen it a thousand times before.
We should study the effects of this childrens show, perhaps we can develop a mind control device from the studies. No other childrens show makes grown man so obsessed that they change their avatar and nicks to something from the show.
If we figure out the cause of this we would probably win a nobel price.
I've seen about 3 episodes in total to give it the "3 strikes, yer out" treatment.
I stopped watching simply because I didn't find it too appealing. As much as I didn't think it was that bad, at times it got a little too girly for my taste, not really to my surprise, though.
Honestly, I don't mind the show. I don't watch it. But I don't get upset about other males watching it. Its a TV show.
It's for kids, but many animators make references to several things so that the parents won't have to watch a shit cartoon. Pretty much every cartoon contains references and sexual innuendos, such as Adventure Time, Rocko's Modern Life, and Tiny Toons.
I strongly believe that people who like MLP have every right to do so.
I do not believe that they act in a way outside of their allotted areas in communities that would deny them their right to enjoy and show that they enjoy the show.
I believe that they should be free to express their enjoyment and their fandom in any way they so choose.
I have yet to see any MLP fan on Facepunch shove their opinions down their throats.
Compared to the following groups:
Facepunchers in general
'Scalies' or whatever the dragon folks call themselves
MLP fans are well-mannered and keep their fandom to a minimal on the forums.
In contrasts, anti-MLP and anti-Furry fans act as such:
In reaction to an image of a man fucking a dinosaur:
The hypocrasy is rampant. I'm sure you're all fmailiar with this image:
This is common. The facepunch community has many times been openly hostile, even violent, against furries and bronies, for only small reasons, or for merely showing their fandom.
This is a forum of progressive, liberal-thinking, accepting people. This is also a bandwagon. Facepunch readily accepts gays, bisexuals, socialists, communists, liberals, democrats, republicans, young and old, men and women, all races, religions, and creeds, and any fetishists short of pedophilia, necrophilia, rapists, and furries, and indeed we even bans for racism and homophobia.
Yet furries and bronies, and indeed any MLP-related material, is openly bannable. Nevermind that other fandoms wreak havoc with pages of their content in LMAO pics. Nevermind that there's open hostility towards these fandoms. Nevermind that we have a thread devoted (practically) to fetishism for dragons, and accept certain members' fetishism of pokemon and Futurama characters, and don't even bother mentioning the mass amounts of Spongebob and W40k content that fills LMAO pics.
Facepunch is hypocritical on this issue.
Find me 15 instances of MLP fans pushing their fandoms on others.
Tell me which is easier, 15 instances of that, or 15 instances of anti-MLP fandom, blatant hate for it, or attacks on the fandom.
Go ahead, honestly look.
So yea, I say, it's for whoever wants to watch it, and you all need to just let the community be and accept that.
Wait, did someone say something about a pony forum?
To each their own, I still watch Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Adventure Time. I enjoy them, and though I don't personally enjoy MLP It's obvious some people do.
As for the topic: any entertainment, as long as it isn't hurting anyone or any thing, is acceptable by whoever the fuck enjoys it. That is what defines entertainment; things that YOU enjoy. You don't have to change what YOU enjoy just because people think its unacceptable for your age.
I don't really see all the pony hatred.
I mean I understand that Facepunch will buttfuck anyone who is extreme fans of it with insults but I watch MLP, and have admitted it upon multiple occasions, but I would like to think I'm generally a liked member of the community, even with that. I've never really caught shit for it.
But I believe that's because MLP is my thing. As in mine, not everybody elses, nobody gives a shit so I keep it to myself. It's like the guy who is telling you about how his parents went on vacation. Sure it's all very interesting to him but you really don't give a fuck and it's quite annoying to hear him prattle on about it.
Not generalizations, find me examples.
This is also generalization. Instead of blaming individuals for their actions, the community as a whole is blamed and attacked, even those who are mild-mannered and don't even show their fandom beyond their avatars.
If I said everyone with blue names are no good shitposters, all they do is spam and say stupid shit, would it apply?
No, because while some, hell, maybe even many blues act stupidly, attack the individual members, NOT the group as a whole.
The show can be enjoyed by anyone. Young or old. Being a teen, young man, or grown adult and enjoying the show does not automatically make you a cultist whose intention in life is to shove their love for the show down your throat and force you to like it, too.
He completely misses the point that it's not the show people are pissed off of, in fact a good portion of people who dislike ponies don't even care about the show themselves, they just don't want to see it on literally every site they go, and when they ask people to stop they get the number 3 treatment of "U MAD YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ITS TOO DEEP FOR YOU"
And no it's not, I'm sorry, I've watched about 5 episodes including the pilots, the 3 were suggested by bronies and the most I got from it was friendship sure is swell guys everyone should be nice to each other. That isn't a message at all.
Please, come back when the show can manage to be goofy and mature at the same time and has a deeper message then "being friends is fun!!"
You are PUSHING you belief when you vehemently claim nobody will understand it and that it's special and not for everyone and everyone who doesn't like it is stupid.
That's the type of self aggrandizing shit people hate, the whole victim complex thing, not the fucking ponies.
But I'm not bothering to see what you're referring to, either. This is me honestly asking, not arguing.
1) The ease of making the animation itself
2) Corner-cutting (For example, in most Pinkie Pie scenes where she's doing "wacky" things like zooming in on people, they just stretch the object with a tween rather than animating her stretching themselves. With these kinds of shortcuts, mistakes shouldn't be allowed to happen)
3) Quality of the art is just par, so it's not like they spend hours making intricate drawings since there's a fairly simple character design and colour palette
4) And, finally, while not extremely prevalent, mistakes like the cyclops are bad too. You can't forgive that particular mistake, especially as it was on the screen for not "one frame" as you've said twice, but many hundred frames since it was on the screen in plain view for an extended period of time.
I don't get what you're trying to achieve here, I'm not bashing the show, I'm just saying the animation is decent rather than excellent, which is true.
This is more a reply I made to someone else on another forum but it's pretty straightforward and open ended to the point of debate.
If you'd watch more episodes or paid closer attention you'd notice that the show also contains some references and humor that only adults would most likely get. Yes, the show was made with kids in mind but it has an appeal that goes across all ages (almost). I enjoy watching the show from time to time. Is it the greatest thing of all time? To some maybe but not really. I'm more an anime person but that's part of the appeal to me. It's strikingly similar to my own interests.
Though the fan base can be annoying it's not really the show you should hate, just the annoying fan base. The anime world usually has the same idiots to a lesser extent.
It's funny how in these threads concerning ponies it seems that there is a general hivemind in that everyone accepts ponies and realizes that ponyfags are only a small minority of the fanbase, but outside these threads all I see is blatant pony hate.
Not for girls huh?
My ass. Whenever I watch TV and one of these commercials come on, I cant help but think some 30 year old man is out there buying this.
I'm just saying that stuff like that shouldn't effect someone's opinion on the animation, since its very small stuff that only someone knowledgeable in the process would notice (because you seem to know your stuff, and I don't know the first thing about animation, and I didn't notice a thing). Its not the best animation in the world, but I think the style is quite good.
but a normally functioning person doesn't go out of their way to watch 30 minutes of a young girl's cartoon solely for the adult-humor and jokes that are seldom made
the community is not normally functioning people
Grown women watch Adventure Time
Grown men watch My Little Pony (but obsess over it)
the show isnt even that great, its something I'll watch. Nothing more. It does not deserve its own fandom. Its just a TV show that got blown up into a meme.
Just today some guy made a thread about how he spammed pictures of ponies on his anti-pony friend's facebook page, and not only wasn't called out on being a complete twat, but actually got praised for it.
With idiots like that in the fandom, it makes me wish I didn't like the show.
Are we arguing about the show or the fandom? Because the two are completely different things.
