You guys guilted me into drawing this on my night off, making me feel bad about not working on it lately.

This is what I'll model off of. I'm pretty happy with this one so far, because it's really close to the form of the Engineer so it should look pretty good for rigging and what not. The bulkier characters her seem to be the easier ones in that regard, just making them not look like hambeasts is the hardest part, lol.

Suggestion: put things like a thigny of lipstick and other such feminine items in a pouch on the tool belt.

Nothing obvious, just a subtle little touch.

Then again it's not like i could ever model anything anyway so...

She need a better hourglass figure.

Not something drastic/overtly sexual, but enough to characterize her as a female from a time period when the hourglass figure was idealized.

I agree, but only to a small degree. Right now, her body looks a bit too stocky, like part from the obvious differences, her body could be interchangeable with a man's.

Damn it, she's already got more of a figure than I do. v:

I could mess around with the angle and the width of her hips and see if anything looks better. I want to avoid making her waist noticeably smaller, because that would really throw off the arms and shoulders.

Just curious, though. Do you think the Engineer is best suited to having the body shape you're talking about? Or would it be better to leave it for another class? I'm planning on doing more classes, and I almost feel like what you're describing would look better on the Soldier, considering probable uniform choices and the taller height (remember, Engineer is pretty short). Or the Demoman. I want to avoid getting into similar silhouette territory, since these three classes are kinda similar in stockiness.

I'll post a front view of the Engineer and female Engineer side by side with a few changes in my next post, so you can compare their body shapes.

Maybe I'd have to have seen the show to get it, but I'm not getting any kind of TF2 or mechanic vibe by how she looks. And apparently she's only like 10 days older than me, I want to try to match the ages of the characters.

Mmm, I'm a bit of the opinion that this engy should have the hardhat and/or the goggles; those are pretty integral to the character. Still, it works just fine this way as well, can't wait to see the model.

She IS gonna have goggles, right?

I mean, the hardhat and the goggles play a big part in defining the Engi in my opinion. I can't imagine not wearing safety goggles and a hardhat with all that sentry and dispenser debris flying about.

Still undecided. I feel that the apron conveys the "safety" message well enough and that the goggles conflict with the intended image and the distinctiveness of the female face. While I don't think the goggles or hardhat define the Engineer so much as his overall form and bearing, my final decision will probably be driven by the community.

Changing the shape of the engi goggles would probably help you with that female face issue. And while the eyes are, I think?, the first thing we look at in a face, I think the cheek definition, mouth and overall shape of the face would compensate without any eyes to look at.

Having longer hair (earlobe length?) coming out from the back of the hardhat would also help too.

It would also be easier than making whole new models for things like the miner's light and christmas lights.

The goggles are a little bit like the pyro, I just can't see the class not wearing that bit of headgear.
Don't point out how hypocritical I am for using the goggleless engineer in the campaign thread.

yeah, but in tf2 the engineer's defining trait is those goggles, i honestly dont care how the goggles are used, heck, i wouldn't mind seeing them as a hairband, so long as they were on the head area of the female engineer.

I agree that the goggles are a defining physical trait of the Engineer, but I don't think the same has to be said about a female Engineer. I like to think that Alia's female adaptions are more akin to 50's woman-oriented propaganda posters. They weren't so much dressed practically, but portrayed as both beautiful and strong.

I think if the current design went ahead, her bandana and hairstyle would take the place as her iconic trait instead of the goggles.

At present she is a bit broad and square around the shoulders, but to your question about figure, I'd imagine a female Engy as less of an hourglass figure and more of a spoon or pear shape. Not drastically so, but some visual key that she's sturdy, hard to knock down if you will. Such a figure could also draw attention away from the broadness of the shoulders and still show femininity without having to tack jugs on her. Not to mention an apron or overalls would fall against a pear shape less awkwardly. And short women (speaking as one) would less likely topple over carrying a level 3 sentry with greater lower body "gravity".

Interesting, im very interested to see how hat placement will work, also do you have special in mind fkr the engineer's spurs? Perhaps another remodel just for that?
