    1.6.4, 10 says we are on 1.6.999 by the end of the day

    Beta 1.6 was released a few minutes ago. While my server updates I'm checking out the SP.

    Boat elevators are completely ruined now.

    Minecraft Beta 1.6 is getting release later this week.
    
    Here’s the changelist so far:

    + Added Nether support to multiplayer
    + Added craftable maps
    + Added hatches
    + Added tall grass in some biomes
    + Mushrooms now spreads (very) slowly
    + Added server property view-distance. Sets the radius of terrain updates (in chunks) to send to the players. Range 3-15, default 10.
    
    * It’s no longer possible to build solid blocks on the top layer of the maps (sorry!)
    * Players stuck in walls will slide towards the nearest gap if there is one
    * Made booster tracks speedier
    * Severely nerfed fire so it spread slower, and doesn’t spread infinitely

    * Fixed the side textures of grass getting extra dark when mining them
    * Fixed anaglyph 3d rendering mode having severe visual bugs

    * Fixed saving while sneaking dropping the player through the ground
    * Fixed a system clock change messing up the game speed

    The nether solution that was implemented is the exact solution bukkit used, hopefully Notch built on it though so it's better now. Doubt it..

    I don't see the point of a hatch if it's noticeable from a mile away and not level with the ground...
    it's more of a convenience than a trap.

    Fuck sake already found an error, furances throw blocks out, stacking iron igots after crafting them(might be other things too) in your inventory makes them disappear

    For some reason it's maxing out the server's CPU as soon as I connect and goes down to 0-10% when I disconnect. Why?

    I guess I'll just have to keep waiting to update 1.7 for pistons :sigh:
    I've been so terribly bored lately and just waiting for new content so I'll have some inspiration to make something cool. I thought pistons would help, and that they would be coming soon.

    When I heard that we'd be getting hatches instead of pistons in this update I wasn't extremely disappointed, I thought I would still be able to make water/lava gates which would be very useful for a lot of things like machines/mob grinders/traps/water slides/hidden passages. However then they wouldn't be able to do that, and now the only possibly interesting function I see from this is perhaps for mob traps.

    Thats incredibly useful if you have a one way staircase to your house. Just have a lever that controls a set of them so when you need to you can get up and when you need protection you can turn them off.

    I just HAD to work out why my crops weren't growing when Notch made seeds unobtainable through grass, didn't I? Anyone know what biomes tall grass spawns in?

    I wonder if the lag might have something to do with the grass being rendered everywhere, but this is of course just a guess. I just figured that maybe showing that new block type everywhere might be a bit too much for the game to handle.

    Mobs no longer go up while bumping into walls while being in water. I think. it's all fucked up, he should make water go through signs and ladders now that he destroyed the water-climbing mechanics, that way I could try rebuild my mob factory using ladders. Also, ladders should work like in the older days, where you could jump on them and they wouldnt need to start from your feet
