Because you can interpret "If there aren't two men for a testimony, bring one man and two women", "A man inherits twice the portion of a woman" (not accurate quotes) as ANYTHING other than 'One man = two woman'.

    Give me a fucking break.
    it's a brash oversimplification
if you are gonna bash the quran (totally okay with that) make sure you actually bash it for something proper, not find a loose connection between personal worth and civil matters.

...because they're the victim? Does it not make logical sense to you that they should have more of a say in the matter than anyone else- since they're the ones who were directly wronged?
Most of those in moral-superiority land believe people have certain rights, governments doing their best to protect them for everyone, no matter how despicable, as it tends to be one of the founding principles of their governments and societies in general.
and even then it doesn't seem fair how some people see the killer as a victim
That might stem from the fact that people who go into prisons as killers often end up completely broken psychologically and about as harmful as a fruit fly.

It isn't an oversimplification, it is grasping things as they really are. And I don't bash the Quran, I'm just am aware, that like any Abrahamic text, the Quran is filled with barbaric and discriminatory teachings. You should be aware of that too.

This. It's why their crime rates are so low because they just kill criminals or make sure that they can't commit crime again and at the same time scaring anyone else into abiding by the law.

Why let the man get away with such a crime? I said this earlier, he's a psycho and he deserves to suffer for what he did to a woman simply because he didn't want to marry him. There was probably good reason why she didn't want to marry him too, it wasn't an "act of passion" he probably acted like a prick while they were dating and acted violently towards her and this was the response.

"Oh yes, he's a human, let's rehabilitate him and let him off easy, twenty years in a federal prison should fix the problem" Fuck that. This man should rot in a hole.
Not putting acid into his eyes =/= letting him get away with it

Let's say someone killed your mother/father (assuming they're not dead in the first place, and if they are: deal with the hypothetical): does that make it okay for you to kill THEIR mother/father?

What if you had a son/daughter and someone with a son/daughter murdered them. Is it perfectly fine for you to kill their son/daughter?

You start allowing eye-for-an-eye style punishments and you find yourself on a VERY slippery moral slope.

    Edited:

Bases tend to do a better job. Chuck concentrated sodium hydroxide onto someone and they are FUCKED. Know what they use to dissolve dead cattle; fat, muscle, bone and all?

    NaOH.
that is a terrible analogy and you should be ashamed for having thought of it

there's a big difference between killing the killer and killing innocent parents

I question whether it's possible to "rehabilitate" a person who would willingly throw acid in a woman's face for refusing to marry him. Not saying that I particularly approve of the method of punishment. Heck, the Iranian justice system probably doesn't even have any rehabilitation programs to speak of.

    This.
If a criminal is fucked in the head enough to throw acid in a womans face or to commit serial murder/rape/both then I highly doubt they can be "fixed". In fact many such people are repeat-offenders and will just keep doing the same thing if given the chance.

It scares me that there are so many people in this thread who would be OK with the government being able to decide an unlimited amount of retribution upon a person and just throw criminals in the grinder and forget about them.

It scares me even more that there are actually people with power in the US who think like this.

Don't get me wrong, I don't feel particularly sorry for this guy, but this is a horrible standard to be setting and anyone who advocates it is not thinking this through at all.

I don't like the concept of an eye for an eye, but for some countries it's just the right thing to do sometimes.

I think this whole acid deal should dealt with..and i hope this will help doing that.

Besides, setencing a murderer to be injected is the same. An eye for an eye.

There is no sensible punishment for behavior like this, and if he were locked up he'd probably be beaten anyway.

And no, he doesn't have the right to a fair sentence. That isn't America.
Instead of one useless ugly cripple, you got two useless cripples who will suffer for rest of his lifes. Good fucking job.

    Edited:

He should be jailed, all limitations which would be needed to keep him from doing this again should be taken, he should be forced to pay most of his wage to the woman for rest of his life, to make her a little bit less miserable.

But blinding him won't fix this fucked up world a tiniest little bit.

The majority of facepunch seems to always be pretty schizophrenic when stuff like this is posted. Everyone either takes the moral high ground, or suddenly throws out all their principles and demands that the same (or worse) is done to the wrongdoer as they did to their victim.

    It's painfully frustrating to watch.

If we actually went by the law of "AN EYE FOR AN EYE" there would be a lot less crime.

If a rapist knew that they were going to get fucked in the butt by an angry black guy with a 10" dick if they were caught, they would be a lot less likely to rape anyone.
