pic from today's skirmish (it's kinda shitty I know)

I have 20 round mags for the M16A1, there was a 30 rounder in there at the time of the pic tho
If you really want to finish that off nicely, if you can find it, a set of "variable" armor would looks god-like with that. That or maybe a M-1955 vest.

Well, the M-1955 was used by US Marine Corps Infantry I believe. The M69 would be the correct flak jacket for my loadout since it's a U.S. Army Grunt impression. I'm looking into one... or I can get a tropical rucksack or an M5 medic bag. I don't think the Army used flak jackets all too often though, they got cumbersome and hot humping out in the boonies. Also, a few things I still want to get: M1951 e-tool, M7 bayonet + sheath, some more 20 round mags, and some M18 smoke grenades and a mix of MK2 and M61 frags maybe just for looks and historical accuracy. However, as of now all my money has to go into guns, because I have the worst luck when it comes to my guns functioning properly. It's always some problem or another that I have to shell out money to fix... it sucks.

You should have a couple of boolits and a packet of cigarettes on the helmet, and an ace card. For total realism

You need more positive slogans on your helmet like:
"I've got a case of the Mondays"
    or
    "Hang in there kitty!"
    or
    "There's always a better tomorrow."

Everyone knows the American soldiers in the Vietnam war were happy hippies and best friends.

    Right now I have

"Hell sucks" (From the book Dispatches and BFBC2 Vietnam)
    "Kill Commies"
"Make war, not love" (Got this from the BF2 mod Eve of Destruction, it was scrawled on a GI's helmet)

A GUN HOLDS A SNIPER WHO THEN PROCEEDS TO INSERT 30 ROUND CLIPS INTO THE SNIPER

I tought about placing some aces on my helmet, but I couldn't find a way to make them stay on it.

So I improvised. Played with them for the last 8 games.

Damn, you all go all out with these vests. I play casually, but I only bring the bare necessities, such as just a belt.

Theoretically, because they can fit over any old belt, so all you really actually need to hold mags (if you absolutely positively dont want to use your pockets and must buy gear) are MOLLE pouches.

My molle vest has a broken fastener, so I might get a new one. It still works, but I have to loop it. I'm also getting a suspender belt, my friend showed me how it can fit with a plate carrier.

Well, I got a bunch of military shit left over, but I just don't see why people go out and drop the cash on a flak jacket and helmets, etc. At most, if I know it's gonna be a long game, I stuff a bottle of water or two in one of these.

This was a small match between a few teams and any other people that wanned to join. And since the parking area is close to the field, you open the trunk, put your gear on, test your replica and go to the mission briefing. TBH, not sure if it was that small of a match, since there were over 60 people. You get yelled at if you don't have your safety glasses on.

At really big events, mil sim types, as you said, no magazine in.

For the most part, you're correct. Most of the things we use we don't truly need. But most have uses- a plate carrier can carry magazines and gear we need to get to, kneepads are great for crouching, etc. About the only thing I can think of that's useless is a helmet, and even then it could be argued that they help keep goggles up and protect the head.

As for camo, that's mostly looks, although camouflage well-suited to the local terrain can be useful.

I find my helmet useful as there's this dude who likes to shoot people in the head with his very high-fps sniper rifle.

    I do.

But when i do i generally complain a lot and ditch my helmet + flak vest so i don't burn to death under all that and so i can actually move

I must do more exercise so i can actually deal with having all that on.
