if you aren't a citizen of Quebec you have to pay higher tuition, correct?
at least here, every Canadian citizen pays the same tuition and it's higher for international students. I'm fairly certain it's that way in most of, if not all of, Canada besides Quebec.
The current prices are 1.6k for Québec students, 3k for Canadian students and 9k for International students. You're spewing crap. (going by your logic, its cheaper than everywhere in Canada even if you pay 3k, you shouldn't mind)

Poor you feuver, but sometimes we got to be able to stand for our rights even if that means sacrifices.

It should be 1.6k for all Canadians. And no I'm not spewing crap considering you just proved my point. Why should non-Quebec citizens have to pay more than Quebec citizens for university? We all live in Canada, we have the same rights, it's bullshit.
Not that I'd go there anyways.

PS there are multiple Universities in Canada with tuition under 3k. MUNs tuition is $1,650.

But we're all Canadian citizens. Why should someone from Saskatoon pay more then someone from Montreal, or Calais for that matter, since French citizens pay the same as Quebec residents? We're a single, unified country, with the same rights and privileges from Victoria, B.C. to Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are all Canadians.

Okay, I never said it had to the with the provincial government, I said it was unfair that other Canadians are being treated like foreigners. Why should we be financially penalized for not having the amazing luck to be born in Quebec or France? All the higher tuition's do is prevent anglophones from attending Quebec schools because they have the nerve to speak English. When you look at the price lists for the University of Victoria it has a category for domestic students and for international students. That is repeated with most other schools in the country, except for Quebec, which has categories for Quebec, Canadian and international students. Alberta isn't making Newfies pay thrice what they do just to go to the University of Calgary.

Quebec has it's own culture, language and national identity. Okay. Don't punish other people for not being part of that. What is the point of making someone from Cape Breton pay almost four-times what someone from Quebec City has to pay? Why treat other Canadians, because, at the end of the day, you are just as Canadian as someone from Yellowknife, like foreigners? Ever since the English won on the Plains of Abraham there has been a divide between our country. Why continue policies that keep a national divide alive?

Yeah if only. Triumph Forks just said that in that New-Scotia Uni there is a price for novascotians and for non-novascotians and international. Is that unfair too? I'd like to know where did you get that is was four-times the price, its not even twice 1.6k to 3k. I did not set those fees and you are contributing to the ''nation divide'' by your Québecbashing.

I don't feel Canadian at all if you must know, you know with the 1982 night of long knives, 1987 meech lake. Yeeaah.

Yes, of course it is. Did I ever say that it was only unfair in respect to Quebec? Or did I just discuss the point at hand?

I exaggerated. Worst I can find is the University of Montreal, which is 2.7 times the price for other Canadians. Sorry about that.

and you are contributing to the ''nation divide'' by your Québecbashing.
Bashing? Where, do tell, did I bash Quebec? Hmm?

That was in response to higher tuition fees in Quebec for other residents of Canada. Admittedly, I was unaware of similar stances in other universities and I sincerely apologize for not doing my research. Though there is no such thing as the University of Nova Scotia, but I found similar price-division on the University of Acadia website so I concede this is not limited to Quebec. I will repeat that the point you are refuting was based solely on the prices of Quebec schools, the "nerve to speak English" thing was merely a bad joke.

I used the qualifier "Most" to show that I did not believe this point limited to Quebec universities. And really, charging other citizens of the same country for the same education is unfair. I don't see how it is not.

Well, at least we can agree Chretien was a fuckhead. I don't, however, support an independent Quebec. I'm sorry, but after 126 years as a unified country and about 249 years since the Treaty of Paris which gave New France to the British and joined it to British North America, I feel we are too close to depart. Also, it would be hell for the Maritimes as it would cause all overland and airspace traffic to go through a different, sovereign nation. We would have to pay tariffs to ship things to one of our largest ports. Plus, Quebec is vital to our economy, and 1/4 of our citizens are Quebecois. An independent Quebec would likely economically fail, and without Quebec the rest of Canada would flounder as well.

I didn't really want to get too much into Quebec politics in this thread though, and I'm sorry for keeping it going. Mechanical mate, if you want to keep this discussion going, PM me, I don't really want to clog up our weather thread anymore. I would like to keep going though, I enjoy these discussions.

I have a cousin who goes to university in Quebec, a lot of people don't seem to mind the fact that she doesn't speak much French, although she did tell me some stories of being denied access to certain restaurants for her inability to speak the language. (She simply brought one of her friends who could )

I am against separation for a wide variety of reasons but I suppose that I do not have the right so say much about the matter since I don't live there. One unfair thing that I have noticed in my high school education is that at almost every opportunity they make Quebec out to be a troublemaking province, and provide a lot of biased facts about the history and such. I just got the vibe that they wanted me to hate Quebec for some reason.

My teachers also seldom had a good word to say about Quebec, one said that Quebec stirring shit and being uncooperative was almost to be expected at this point. I can't say that I disagree with them, Quebec's politicians are a bunch of whiny, deluded assholes, and that gives off a negative impression for the rest of the province on everyone not from there, though the stories I've heard of snooty French people there with a superiority complex don't help. Though my trip to Quebec City was rather nice, and people were quite nice and polite, perhaps moreso than in downtown Toronto, though that's not entirely that difficult to achieve.

I don't think highly of separatism, or separatists for that matter, and I'll leave my thoughts on that front at that, as I'm not in the mood to argue about it tonight.

As to the Quebec school funding issue, Ontarians pay the most of anyone across the nation for school. You're pissed your tuition is going up from 1.6k/year? Well feel fucking lucky it was that low to begin with, I paid $10 grand for a year's tuition and it's only going to go up next year thanks to the fuckhead who's been ruining this province even farther for the last 8 years who somehow got re-elected again (actually, another provincial election almost happened thanks to him having a minority, I honestly hope it does, the Liberals are fucking idiots). The only upside is that I might, and that's a big might, get $1.6K back thanks to some student's unions bitching at McGuinty about an election promise he has no intention of fulfilling properly (to lower tuition 30%, this meagre reimbursement is his way of "committing" to it, just so he can raise fees another 5%, as he's done for the last 5 years). I hold little sympathy when you're already in a position about ten times cheaper than what I am.

It baffles me why liberals would raise the cost of tuition, rather than lowering it, the platform for the liberal party here was to make education and loans much more affordable for people, and to eventually make it free. (Yeah they didn't win) Sounds like a pretty shitty leader that you have over there.

Down with the weather I guess. Whatever you stated, you must understand that every nation have a right to self-determination and if the people of Québec wanted out, there is little you can do to rein them in. 300 years is a small window of time for a country to be unified, independently of your feelings lots of nations who seceded were in much more longer than Québec in Canada.

I am against separation for a wide variety of reasons but I suppose that I do not have the right so say much about the matter since I don't live there. I have a friend who came from Ontario and he would always say that history classes in Québec was too much centered on Québec-Canada clashes from early up(read French Canada/English Canada). He says it's biased, I say it's representative and sure the perspective is different, being dominated isn't the same as dominating.

My teachers also seldom had a good word to say about Quebec, one said that Quebec stirring shit and being uncooperative was almost to be expected at this point. Okay, but remember that we are more taxed than you ontarians, such are the choices we made for our society, more tax, low tuition fees(and much more). We don't need your sympathy, you are not even trying to understand our situation, instead you go and talk about how you're getting fucked over by your PM's and that everyone should say shit only if they were to get as fucked as you. It'd make one hell of a divided country, we'd always end up with a minority government (as if it didn't happen often enough)

Not all of Quebec is "fighting" for separation, especially in the last few years. It's a minority that wants it, and I wish this minority would stop being so damn loud.

Well depends who you hang out with. I have one friend who just keeps talking about how our PM and the whole current gov. should die in a fire.

Yeeaah.
If you don't feel Canadian then renounce your citizenship and get out of Canada. Go to France or something if you want to be so separated from us so badly.

You clearly don't want to be a Canadian citizen so I don't see why you should keep your citizenship.

I won't even be able to go to college because of the price and here Quebec students are bitching about fees.

In fact. I don't understand separatists. Quebec won't last long without Canada, that's for sure. We're not killing your language or anything. In fact Im forced to learn QUEBEC French, not even France French which imo would be easier to understand.

I can only get to college because of the perks from having native status. But I still have to wait for June 1 (Or july 1st, I forget) To know if I was accepted for funding.

If Funding doesn't go through, I'm fucked.

Im metis so I should have reduced fees or something. But as far as I know they're STILL higher than Quebec tuition.

Ill probably be stuck in retail because of it.

I have a friend who came from Ontario and he would always say that history classes in Québec was too much centered on Québec-Canada clashes from early up(read French Canada/English Canada). He says it's biased, I say it's representative and sure the perspective is different, being dominated isn't the same as dominating.

You see how you shit-talk about us so easily. It's stupefying, like really. You think they were deluded, whiny ? How please explain. Oh and DaysBefore that's also QuébecBashing.

Thanks, it's getting old that ROC thinks that they opinion matter when we speak about our nation's future.

No thanks. We don't work that way here. You may call that whiny, but truly it's only us standing up.
Seriously. You don't want to be in Canada, GET OUT OF CANADA!

I've seen you argue now forever and its annoying. Save up, leave. Simple as far as I know.

If I get the funding, EVERYTHING will be paid for up to a certain limit.

I am very thankful for this privilege I get. In Napanee, Ontario, It is literally impossible for students to get jobs. I have qualifications and good references for jobs dealing with the public and food.

Most recent events: I wasn't hired for a line cook because someone else had more experience. It's reasonable. I was a chicken cook for KFC, and this was an application for a restaurant. It would be more preferable for someone with more experience to get hired.

I had two interviews for Tim hortons on the same day. It was down to me and another student. The other guy was picked over me because he had a previous history working with Tim hortons. Now this wouldn't normally bug me, but I know the guy. And he's a total asshole. I asked a few of my friends about how he is around Tim Horton's, and everybody I talked to HATES the kid.

1 week later: A friend of mine is hired at Tim Horton's. Nothing against her, she's a nice person, but she has no experience at all. Talking to others again, and it turns out that the only reason she was hired was because she's female. I was told to apply at Tim Horton's again, but with them having a mindset like that, No. Tim Horton's can go fuck itself. Still has good coffee though \/

tldr: Napanee can suck my balls.

I can sympathise with the Quebec students on the basis that education is a right and should ideally not be prohibitively costed, as well as Charest being a cockbag as far as i know

And yeah, not every Quebecois, or at least not very many of the ones I met wants to separate, but there is definitely a divide between English and French Canada
