like, oh i dunno, realistic colouring. sadly, this is a dying art in basically everything. games are brown, movies are blue or brown, and now so are poses. be creative, little snowflakes.
Woo. That's what I was doing in that gunship picture thing.

I noticed while I was on holiday on the very sunny island of Mallorca that, while we colour everything absolutely orange and yellow and brown when we make pictures where we want to convey the feeling of heat (like generic military desert pictures and the like), when there isn't a cloud in the sky the environment is actually tinted slightly blue.

People need to take more note of these things if they want to make "realistic" pictures. If you don't want to make realistic pictures though that's cool - just keep on trucking and making atmospheric pictures with desaturation and crazy colour modding. I don't care either way I just thought it was an interesting point.

i live in australia and even here, where it can break 50 degrees celcius during summer, i've yet to see everything turn brown. the sydney dust storm and large fires filtering through sunlight are an exception, although the latter was more red than anything. most days, you'll have the bluest of blue skies, a slight blue-grey haze in the distance because of the eucalyptus trees (hence 'blue mountains', eucalypts in large concentrations look blue-grey from more than a few hundred metres away), and everything else just as vibrant as any other day. of course, the vibrant stuff was mostly introduced veg or man made, because our native plants tend to be olive drab in colour.

I am trying to be the voice of reason...

Why exactly did this get rated polite/friendly 13 18 times? This is not a tutorial, but a scolding for having a differing or dissenting opinion. If you don't like the criticism you receive, just ignore it. It really is that simple. No need to write a diatribe concerning the "injustices" of the Screenshots & Movies section, especially when it's never been directed towards you personally. All this is doing is fomenting discontent and honestly, complaining about people's opinions in a hostile and lengthy manner with included graphical aids comes across as incredibly whiny and pretentious.

While the comics (I did read both) are decently made and have some good, strong common sense advice, it's still commanding everyone as to how to treat people. You simply can't control people's opinions and trying to is an act of futility. If someone gets all hot and bothered because someone else called their picture "generic", then it's pretty obvious they know it's generic, and they were hoping that either 1) nobody would notice and they could fool the entire SS&M section, or 2) they could pile enough muzzleflash/bloom/color cast/tracers/rain to cover it up. Seriously people, embrace the generic if that's your thing. If you like brown, smear it all over your pics. More interested in off screen threats? Go for it! But remember; Don't change, and the criticism won't change either.

To take this as a serious tutorial would be foolish. This is really just your opinion on what constructive criticism is (a concept that has never been defined officially), and basically what you are saying that everyone who doesn't agree with you
    is a:
    and should:
    and:
    shut the hell up
    ???

    Also,

I keep seeing "its fun not work" used constantly as an excuse for mediocrity. I don't know what you do for a living, but I put hardly as much effort into my work as I put into my fun. Example:
My car is a POS, so I am constantly repairing it. But I love working on it, and do the absolute best job I can. However, I worked at an auto shop and couldn't stand it. I had no fun, constantly got burned/cut/bruised/electrified, repaired all the piece of shit cars you see, smell and get stuck behind on the road...It was work, I put in just enough effort to get the job done and quit after a couple months. Products of work are repetitive, lacking effort, victims of compromise. On the other hand, products of fun are creative, unique, vibrant, interesting.

What we see is boring, similar, monocolor, uninspired pictures resembling products of WORK, not fun.

So I support your quote of "its fun not work", but not in the same context as you intended.

    TL:DR and other thoughts

You don't have to reply to anything that you don't want to or don't like. Nobody will blame you for ignoring someone who insults you.
If all someone gets is "shit criticism", then it's probably a shitty pic. If it doesn't even appeal to the least common denominator then there is something wrong and it needs to be addressed.
Complaining pubicly will never change someone's attitude in a positive direction. It's how trolls and stomach ulcers are born.
Most people catch the 'screenshot bug' and strive to improve their editing/posing/camera skills. Not everybody wants to stagnate in monocolor MW2 land, so when someone says C&C, they get it. If they're just having fun then they'll ignore the haters.
We are all people with a unique perspective, unique history, and unique thoughts. Everyone sees something different in each picture, and everyone will point out what they feel is wrong. Just because someone says something is wrong doesn't make it so.
Remember that this is a public forum, and by posting you pretty much acknowledge that you are now subject to other people's judgments and criticisms because...people are people, and that's what they do.
who cares if people are nice or not on a forum

if you get hurt on the web you are probably a real shut-in

criticism itself is a nice thing however anyone writes it, because of the fact that they are trying to help you and you shouldn't call people trolls or dicks or any other names just because they have a few swears in there

BUT MODERATORS MUST BE TELEPATHICALLY ABLE TO APPEAR AND IMMEDIATELY SOLVE ANYTHING I DEEM A PROBLEM TO MY SATISFACTION BECAUSE NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT IN THE WORLD THAN MY PRECIOUS SENSIBILITIES

on a serious note, i think this thread's purpose (whatever that was, besides getting mad about nothing in particular) is over now

I made your sarcasm detector go so high it reset itself. You should take it to an authorized repair facility to have it recalibrated immediately.
