The smoke and muzzleflash are absolutely fine, the thing i hate is the glare effect thingy on that vending machine :D Thinner and longer, maybe a little less opacity, and it would look fine

Muzzleflash freaks me out because you can't really see all of it.
Should of moved your camera a little more to the right.

Not bad but your camera angle needs to allow for the size of the flash. Also, the smoke is too bright for the rest of the lighting. The shading on Nick's face is really weird because the edge that is closest to the light-source is the darkest.
That kind of glare would only really be coming from a particularly bright light source, and the glare would never be brighter than the source itself.
Muzzleflash could be bigger and brighter as well. But you picked a good spot to pose in, the lighting on Nick looks tight.
Pretty good looking.
To be honest, I like the original's lighting better.
