Story posted:

"We were supposed to move out to Helmand Province today to back up the Brits there as part of a new operation to push into Taliban strongholds. I hate it when plans change at the last minute.

My pack was still heavy with the goods prepared for the 8 hours to RAF Fairford and then the 3 hours on to Kandahar Airbase when the aircraft landed in the hazy Louisiana afternoon. The air was thick with moisture, my BDU beginning to stick irritatingly to my back. Fucking hick town.

Needless to say, we all knew something was up when we started going south instead of east after take-off, never reaching the sea. None of us said a word; only one look at Captain Jiménez' face and we all knew not to. He was often stern, years of stress-induced wisdom etched into his furrowed brow, but there was a melancholy behind those dark eyes that day that bore into the heart of each man like a rifle round.

We understood that face when orders of Operation Holding Pen were issued with hushed, guilty words. The blue-covered folder, first page entitled "Containment Protocol", sounded like badly written fan-fiction.

I didn't sign up for this shit."

I'm not really happy with this. I forgot to give them gasmasks, the posing is pretty off and the flamethrower looks like shit. Regardless, C&C please.

In the movie they were wearing gasmasks, but that can't really be helped. The flame coming out does look a little putrid, but the other side of it is nice.

Looks quite good actually, but it could due without the TV lines. They're so overused, and it's getting pretty annoying.

Posing doesn't look very off at all, in fact, I think it looks good. Flamethrower needs some work, but it's all coo' anyway.

Tbh Ddok is the only person who ever uses them (even if it is in every pose :P) and I have used them only once or twice in my whole time here so I thought I'd have a go. It kinda fits the subject matter anyway; it's not like I'm just slapping it on any old picture.

GIMP has a filter that puts them in with a simple click! I erased them by 50% though because the effect was too strong.

TV lines fit perfectly. Also better news, if you ever have to edit some sort of lava gun just repeat this process

The thrusting fire isn't done very well - it looks low-res/blurred and not cutted wery well.
I like the atmosphere, tho. And the lighting is neat.

I agree, the end of the flame looks alot cooler than the start of it, but I know that making fire is fucking hard.

The lightning is really cool and the pose is nice.

but i dont really like the fire coming out of the flamethrower, looks stretched and a bit low res
you could also see, if im not wrong, erase marks with soft brush at the edge of the flames coming out
really good picture overall though

Awesome fire and fantastic lighting but yeah they should have masks and maybe the guy with the flamethrower should have some kind of flame retardant suit. I'm not sure if there's a model of those though.

It's not stretched or low-res, actually I made it smaller. I think the reference photograph was rather over-contrasted though and I had to try and adjust to that. Also, I motion-blurred the flamethrower fire because it's moving fast... or something. Perhaps that was a mistake.

Do you mean they should be more visible in this picture? I did consider that but the TV lines have the added effect of upping the contrast, which I could do without.

Soldiers should have gas masks, but that's just a minor detail problem. Other than that I love it!

The flames look good, posing is solid, scan lines look very fitting in this scene. Also, I liked the short story you made to go along with it, it was very well written.

Wow thats some camera, being able to capture HD quality during nighttime, did they have a camera crew there with proper lights etc just so they could capture an army dude using a flamethrower?

Yeah they did; it's a screenshot based off a film.
