Now, I see a lot of people are wondering why I did this, and I shall tell you. There were two reasons, one came unintentionally. The first was thanks to Fire Kracker, to which the honor of bestowing such a godlike picture upon us belongs to him, he posed and edited the picture. You see, Fire Kracker was a bit of an odd fellow, who like many of us posers cares deeply for the reception his poses and pictures get. In sheer abasement by the fact that my threads are often able to gain much more replies and ratings than he does (not that I'm boasting) he conducted this experiment to see if it was just because I had more status than he did or some other reason. I frankly didn't think I was that known anymore than he was, but he felt like it, so being the friend I am I went along with it.
After a short time I had checked back and discovered there were ten new replies. I commented back a bit before I watched a repeat episode of The Red Shoe Diaries (it's a fucking retarded show, I think I am going to stop watching it. It's a dumb excuse for pointless sex which I don't find myself entertained watching but rather thinking how awkward it must be to act in a show like this. Plus, David Duchovny's in it, so I guess that has something to do with me watching it). Anyhow, when I woke up the next morning I saw twenty new posts. I also saw that people began speculating why Fire Kracker and I did this. I did tell Fire Kracker that a reason to this thread getting more replies than usual (not even I get this many replies this quickly, at least I don't think so) was that it was a 'controversial' thread.
I have told you what Fire Kracker was experimenting. Now what was I experimenting? Well, some of the above posters began to catch on, but really this was an arrogant move on my part to see if I would get flamed for a rediculously epic picture as 5omeone does these days (though there's more to it, obviously) or would people still 'glorify' the picture. I did this once before to little effect with my Office pictures a while back, but that ended up sparking a comic idea. What has this experiment shown me? It has shown that unfortunately status and popularity on this forum does work in your favor. Someone who is much more known throughout the Facepunch community earns much more recognition. This may have felt like an obvious observation, but it needed proof. The screenshots section is heavily built upon the biases of the users' peers, making other users pushed down and often thrown to just trolling. I believe 5omeone understood this, but took it to the extreme.
Despite what this experiment has shown, we shouldn't kill ourselves or stop posting pictures, but rather give everyone fair chances on each and every picture. Give actual crticism to everyone and not just those who aren't in your inner circle. Yes, saying that is a bit hypocritical on my part since I have gone to threads made by ChestyMcgee, The Vman, Fire Kracker, etc. and said something simple as 'Lol, nice.' with out completely examining what could be improved or what skills could be used for other pictures.
It doesn't matter all too much to me if you hate me for something like this, if you have lost faith in posting pictures because you feel you are not as known as others (when really you shouldn't, many people who aren't as known as the people who have been here longer do share many interesting ideas and strategies to their poses), or whatever the case. I also don't expect the forum to change, because that would be nonsense even to my optimism. Continue as you were, and thank you for participating in Fire Kracker and I's experiment.
[/Facepunch is serious business]
Yes I agree wholeheartedly, that's why EVERY SINGLE SECTION MODERATOR was and is one, because they were popular and well known in the sections to which they reside. Because they were nominated not because people thought they would make a good moderator, but because they were good at what they did.
Popularity in this forum has always been based on how good you are at what you do (That's why i'm like...god here.), I remember back in 2006 when the standard for most poses and comics and whatnot was incredibly high, people would work hours on end JUST on the editing of their picture until they were told they did a good job, but they were also given criticism to improve even further.
That no longer happens, constructive criticism has literally vanished because too many people started whining about how it was actually flaming and how people who gave it were trolls. As that progressed, the standard for gmod poses here has fallen to a laughably pathetic level. People are too focused on making everyone around them feel special and loved, and anyone who actually criticizes work is labeled as a troll and told to get out. It's really sad.
What's even sadder is that I doubt things will ever change back to what it should be.
