I was using a mixture of custom blood brushes and regular brushes. It's not that hard to do what I did for blood.

well, it looks great. But you should add in some kinda wound on the guy to make it look more like he has been shot.
And I really like the editing on the gun (not so much the muzzleflash)

His brains just got removed from his head by a forty-five slug. I thought it would be a nice touch for extra blood in that area.

The blur on the gun is shit, the blood is too bright, and it doesn't look as if it is coming from his head. Handposing is a bit off for the guy holding the gun and the muzzle is pretty bad.
