Now kiddos, it's time for a history lesson.
I found myself continually frustrated with these several pictures because I found so many good ways to edit it, from vibrant reds, to moody blues. In the end, I decided to hit a more mellow and moody tone rather than a bright sunset like picture. Although it would fit the theme of the story, but I felt it didn't quite fit the theme of the Vortigaunts.
Celesticu Fortifar
Many know the name Celesticu Fortifar either in great appraisal or heavy resentment. Celesticu Fortifar was a traveler who lived fifty thousand Xenian years ago. In his early life he was despised as a thief and bottom feeder who lived off middle class and higher class Vortigaunt's wastes. It was not until his elderly years did he become known as he is today. Celesticu's passion was traveling. He traveled despite being hated by the higher classes, which was the sole reason he spent so much time within the wilderness rather than the villages and cities. No one knows precisely when, but on one of Celesticu's long journey's he had an epiphany. He returned to the cities and tribes claiming he has seen The Void, which at the time was unheard of. He claimed The Void was an omnipotent and omniscient being transcending all Vortigaunt comprehension. He believed that The Void controlled the lives and deaths of all beings. In addition to this he said proof of The Void's power, wisdom, and strength resides within each and every Vortigaunt which he called The Vortessence. This belief gained so much attention that the predecessors to Celesticu, the shamans, established schools and academies training individuals to harness The Vortessence. As time went on, the shamans began to believe that some possess the Spark of Vortessence, while others do not. Such a belief caused uproars among the Vortigaunts, they believed the shamans were being greedy and would only teach the Vortessence to those they saw fit. Many Vortigaunts began to lose faith in The Void afterwards. Many of those who do not follow the shamans' idea of the Vortessence follow the Nihilanth in the belief that "every being dictates its own well being, rather than an invisible force". The years prior to Celesticu's discovery are referred to, now, as Before Celesticu Fortifar (B.C.F.) and the years after are aptly named After Celesticu Fortifar (A.C.F.). It remains unknown to this day as to what gave Celesticu the perception of The Void or as to how he discovered the now known Vortessence within certain individuals. Such knowledge may never be discovered, but the legacy of Celesticu and the belief in The Void shall last for generations.
The Vortessence
After Celesticu's discovery the lifestyle of Vortigaunts had changed dramatically. For three generations The Shaman Council and The Nihilanth collaborated together to understand this new found knowledge. Together they discovered The Vortessence allows a Vortigaunt bearing a Spark will be able to harness the energy within everything around them. The energy can then be used to manipulate atomic and cellular structure of physical objects and creatures. The Shamans had decided the power of Vortessence should only be used medically and for antlion husbandry or other practical uses. The Nihilanth became outraged with such beliefs. He instead used it to overcome enemies in battle, thus began his planetary conquest for Vortikind. The Shamans feared any direct intervention would begin a civil war, and were helpless to prevent The Nihilanth's conquest.

These last two pictures I was reluctant to add mainly because I thought they were quite redundant, but I felt they were pretty well done visually and scenically.
