To be honest, There isn't any "make the picture automatically awesome", photoshop just requires more time and a little less improvization as GIMP.

Oh please, you can't hold that argument when you yourself have done the same thing.

Besides, considering the effort it takes to remove the effect from its background and make it fit the scene (coloring, shading, glow, all that) you get results better than anything hand drawn while putting in the same amount of work.
