SAN FRANCISCO – A bill to tax and regulate marijuana in California like alcohol would generate nearly $1.4 billion in revenue for the cash-strapped state, according to an official analysis released Wednesday by tax officials.

The State Board of Equalization report estimates marijuana retail sales would bring $990 million from a $50-per-ounce fee and $392 million in sales taxes.

The bill introduced by San Francisco Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano in February would allow adults 21 and older to legally possess, grow and sell marijuana.

Ammiano has promoted the bill as a way to help bridge the state's $26.3 billion budget shortfall.
So, are they thinking about it? :smug:

    I think so... :buddy:
Ammiano's bill is still in committee. Hearings on the legislation are expected this fall.

I don't live there. But maybe if this happens, the rest of the world might follow suit.
I dont want this to happen really, because smoking it illegally gives it more of an excitement factor. I dont even smoke pot.. but I like it more than drinking. Drinking should be illegal.
Here come the disagrees and dumbs.

Smoke pot if you want, t'were I King, then I would prohibit it, but then again, if I were King we'd live in a Dystopian police state. I personally do not smoke pot because I am terrified of schizophrenia. I'm not going to pretend I can't see the advantages.

No, you don't seem to get it. Why do they want it so much? Hello?!

Why do you think I made the word "cash-strapped" bolded? For fun, maybe.

Think about it, you legalize it, you control it easier. Simple enough. :U

All drugs should be legal just because they generate so much money, and is the user's fault if they use it

I've always said that legalizing Marijuana then taxing the crap out of it would be great for the government. We are what like 7 trillion dollars in debt? And it would generally be safer for the potheads since it is government regulated.

    I'm predicting another news headline.

The Pizza Industry predicts a $23,000,000 increase in revenue if marijuana is legalized in California. They report that 3/4 of the customers that order are high as a kite and often give way more money than needed...

    thats what I was thinking..
I'm not sure what they are trying to do EXACTLY, but I know they are going to make sure they p.much are in control of it if its legal or not.

I really dont see anything wrong with pot, unless you turn into a burnout, lace it with coke or you're really god damn stupid and think its the most amazing shit ever and become a druggie.

This is invalid. People who work at places like these already get high. You'd be amazed what happens in FF Places...

Lays incorporated is expecting a revenue increase of $30,000,000 when Cannabis is legalized in California this Fall, and are now going to produce a new flavor called "Onion-Pickle-Sour Cream-Lunch Meat-Honey-Pineapple," which they hope many of the new users will have the munchies for, this Fall.

No, the last thing Hollywood needs is an even larger people who laugh at things that aren't funny to sober people.
