So we all know character variations are coming to Rust, What is interesting is that we might not have control over the variations made to our newmen.
So we could be anyone with no choice in gender or race,
I was a bit dubious at first but i like the idea, would like to see gender as an option tho.
I know we don't see are own faces but it might be weird to see females running round shouting "come back you Bastard" in really deep voices.

would it change every time you die? that would make more sense, yet if i didn't like the way i looked i could always suicide until i found something i liked and would try to preserve

No it would never change, It would be linked to the Steamid only way to change players face would be to change your steamid

How can I find my SteamID?

Launch any Valve multiplayer game.
Click Options.
Select the Keyboard tab.
Click the Advanced button.
Check the box labeled Enable Developer Console.
Click Apply and then click OK.
Join or create a server.
From the menu screen, press the tilde ~ key - typically in the upper left hand corner of the keyboard to load the Console.
Type status into the console text field and press the Enter key.
Your SteamID will be displayed next to your nickname in the console window.
SteamID example: STEAM_0:1:1234567
Can my SteamID and/or Steam Account Name be changed?
Your SteamID and Steam Account Name can not be changed, even by Steam Support staff members. Your Steam Community ID can be changed at any time in your Steam Community settings, under "Edit my SteamID page".

I can imagine the constant complaints about it, its too easy to raid, its too hard to raid, i don't like the cupboard, i don't like my face!
It goes against my plan to start a Viking Raiding group, i need blond hair blue eyed bearded Nords to complete my plan.

wouldn't darker people get an advantage at night? is rust supposed to be entirely luck based?

Not if they live in the Snow, that's where the white people would get the advantage, asians would would do well in the desert.

It's something i had never thought of i always expected to be able to customise our newmen, But it sort of makes sense It mean we are always the same other players will know us by how we look, It will be strange for two people to look alike, so recognising friend will be easier, But I do think we should be able to pick a grender.

Yeah i agree, i'd like to be able to choose my gender, my eye, skin and hair color, i don't want to be Mongoloid or Negroid. Not cos i don't like them but because as i mentioned it doesn't fit in with my Nordic Domination Plans, for that to happen i need to be Caucasoid.

I for one am down with this. Is there a way to procedurally draw faces? Based on your steam ID?
The only option I would protest for is the Choice of Gender. You simply need that option, you cannot have a random % of male/female. Way too many ppl would complain.
New account-> Open Rust for first time-> Immediate decision if you want (to play) a male of female character. You then select either male or female and click ok, and this pops up:
YOUR CHARACTER WILL BE PROCEDURALLY DRAWN. ONCE SEX IS SELECTED, THERE IS NO GOING BACK. YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED A MODEL AND IT WILL BE BOUND TO YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT, WITH IRREVERSIBLE CHANGES. DO YOU WISH TO CONTINUE? (Note: You must continue to play the game)

i think a choice in gender makes sense, but i'm down for random assignment of features etc tied to my steamid.

its hilarious. i would like it to be permanent, you cant change your face, and its unique. maybe clans would form with in-game races ? i already imagine the blond hair master-race.

I like the idea of the randomization aspect, but I think it would be better suited to maybe a per server basis instead of a per SteamID basis.
Every server you go on generates you as a different person. In a sense, you have a different identity on every server. Every server should also have the option to wipe appearances if they wish, though it should be something akin to wiping blueprints. Basically, identities shouldn't have to be wiped unless there's an update that effects them or the playerbase on the server chooses to start completely fresh, meaning not just a map wipe.
And while I agree with Garry's stance of "you are born who you are", try telling that to a generation that seems to be in more and more of an identity crisis as the years go by. I'm sure if you were to say that to some transgender people, or people that identify as various ridiculous entities, you'd have those people jumping down your throat as much as they could.
Though if they were to get their way, then we'd see some individuals playing Rust as furries, ponies, and random ass shit like a planet or a cloud. In which case, I think they'd honestly be more at home playing Garry's other game than Rust.
